Can you attach the mdat file which produced that? What equaliser were you using? Any other info on what led up to the error?

It seems to be an intermittent issue that pops up when I open an .mdat file that contains the results from an Audyssey One run (this script specifically). I always use the Generic/Generic equalizer. Next time it happens I'll send you the .mdat. The challenge though is that anytime it happens and I close REW, opening the .mdat next time does not result in the same error.

Those files look fine. I added a check to avoid the error, which was due to an un-initialised filter, but I don't know how that might occur so the fix might not help.

When I set RTA Mode to e.g. RTA 1/12 octave, why can I still configure FFT Length manually?
In RTA mode (not Spectrum mode), I'd expect the FFT length to be purely a function of RTA resolution and sample rate.

Related to that, when I've created an RTA 1/12 Octave measurement at 48kHz, click "Save current", then "File->Export->Export measurement as text" with the options "Use range/resolution/smoothing of measurement" enabled, then I get a file with 1020 data points between 14.6484438Hz and 22966.735945Hz.

So that appears to be 1020/log2(22967/14.6) = 1/96 Octave resolution, even though the RTA with "Use bars on RTA" definitely showed 1/12-typical resolution (e.g. 12 distinct data points between 1kHz and 2kHz) and I chose to export at that same resolution.

But now in the exported file I have some 96 data points in the same 1-2kHz range where there should've been 12 and I'm wondering where they came from.

This is on REW V5.40 Beta 124.

They aren't, perhaps you have dynamic loudness or some other effect active.

Absolutely correct, DV is on. But why does that affect the length (duration) of the sweep?

The behaviour of dynamic volume depends on the signal it sees, longer sweeps spend more time at lower frequencies so it treats them differently. All such effects should be off for measuring.

Builds updated today (beta 125) with these changes:

• Added: The 3D settings dialog has preset buttons
• Changed: Allow the RTA input trace to be hidden
• Fixed: Changing the settings of a configurable equaliser for a measurement did not update the configuration saved in the measurement
• Fixed: French and German help table of contents used incorrect character set
• Fixed: Filtered periodic noise signals (including CTA2034 and Speech) had the same data on both channels even if the "uncorrelated" option was selected
• Fixed: After level checks the signal generator was not fully restored to its previous settings if it had been using the same noise signal as the level check

Windows builds from beta 125 are signed with a new certificate. Windows SmartScreen will warn that the app is not recognised until it has seen sufficient downloads, click "More info" to run the installer.

FYI: Downloading in Edge puts me into an endless loop of Windows trying to protect itself, me telling Windows REW is safe, Windows again trying to protect itself. And I long ago disabled every form of protection modes I was able to find and control myself (Win 10, final revision).

Downloading with Chrome and opening the file, I simply had to confirm REW was safe before the install started, and I was good to go.

'Might help others who have run into the same or similar issue.

*Chrome is my default browser, but the site opens in Edge when I click the link from the REW popup window.

Strange, maybe that's a Win10 thing. It should use the default browser and does for me (also Chrome, on Win11).

Hello new here, thanks for all the effort in developing this tool. and apologies if this is in the wrong section, you have a few different BETA threads open.

PC: Lenovo T460

USB Driver: Via Audio USB Technollogy ASIO drivers with Kernel Streaming implementation

My use case is that due to the DAC and driver being very old , only the 32 bit version of REW will recognise the ASIO driver and send bit perfect to the DAC successfully via KS.
REW x64 Java Exclusive fails with this DAC, outputting a chirp that cuts in and out and the legacy ASIO implementation does not show as a selectable option in the ASIO selection drop down.

This results in requiring a 32bit instance to send the bit perfect sweep, and a 64bit instance to receive the java exclusive mic input.

The beta installer is failing for me but if you have a solution for my specific DAC\setup I would be very greatful, noting ASIO4ALL and FlexASIO do not like talking to this DAC. It's very picky about receieving low level KS data.

I get an"mdat file association" and "failed to set up req file association" error when installing the 32 bit beta in Win 10 pro 64. I can install the latest official 32 bit installer without any issues. I can also install the 64 bit beta without any issues.
After the errorsit then continues to complete the install seemingly successfully, however it fails to extract the REW executable file, so it can't be run.

- Win 10 pro x64 fresh install latest sp and updates
- no AV or third party apps installed
- all windows defender and smart screen disabled
- latest beta and one version older you suggested both fail with identical logs and errors as previously advised
- both official release 32 and 64 work fine

I shared the log with the installer provider, their comments are below. You have already covered most of their suggestions, but the temp folder suggestion might help. What stands out is the launcher executable (roomeqwizard.exe) doesn't appear in the list of installed files - it would usually appear after spark-swagger.conf and before roomeqwizard.vmoptions. That suggest the file may have been intercepted during the initial extraction to a temporary folder.

The installer ran with admin privileges, the elevated helper started successfully, and the Install files action then extracted everything to C:\Program Files (x86)\REW\ without any error.

The first and only failure is right at the end:

[ERROR] com.install4j.runtime.beans.actions.desktop.CreateFileAssociationAction [ID 80]: executable does not exist: C:\Program Files (x86)\REW\roomeqwizard.exe

What is striking is that the launcher executable roomeqwizard.exe does not appear anywhere in the install-file list of the log — there is no Install file: ...roomeqwizard.exe entry at all, even though every other executable and DLL in the project is logged as it is written. Every file installation in install4j fires a BEFORE_INSTALL_FILE event that is written to this log, so the absence of an entry means that on this machine the file never made it to disk in a state that the next action could see.

What this points to
Given that the same installer works for you on Windows 11 and for hundreds of other users, and only fails on this one user's Windows 10 and Windows 7 systems with both the old and the new certificate, this is almost certainly something on the user's machine intercepting the launcher file. The most common cause is anti-malware / endpoint-protection software silently quarantining or blocking the launcher executable as it is being written:

• Some AV products delete the file between the write and the subsequent file-existence check.
• Others hook the file API and make the write appear to succeed while no file actually lands on disk.
• SmartScreen itself does not normally delete files, but third-party suites that "trust" SmartScreen reputation can be very aggressive with newly-signed executables.

What to ask the user to try

1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history (and the history/quarantine of any third-party AV) and look for any item related to roomeqwizard.exe, REW_windows-x32_...exe or the temp directory C:\Users\sam\AppData\Local\install4j\.
2. Temporarily disable real-time protection (and any third-party AV) and run the installer again.
3. If that helps, add C:\Program Files (x86)\REW and the downloaded installer to the AV exclusion list and re-install.
4. As a workaround you can run the installer with a different temporary directory, e.g. REW_windows-x32_5_40_beta_125-api.exe -temp C:\temp\rew. This sometimes helps when AV is interfering with the default temp location.
5. After a failed install, ask the user to list the contents of C:\Program Files (x86)\REW — if everything except roomeqwizard.exe is there, that confirms the launcher was singled out by something on the system.

Based on the log itself, install4j is doing what it should: it cannot create the file association because the target executable has been removed from disk before the association step runs.

I actually used the temp folder as a work around previously to access the install so the exe is definitely in the temp folder. Strange that its getting intercepted on my systems even though both are clean, I must be doing something that I'm not realising as I'm the only variable in this chain.

I'll play around and troubleshoot, you've given me something to work with for now. Thanks John.

I actually used the temp folder as a work around previously to access the install so the exe is definitely in the temp folder.

If you have not already done this, try right-clicking on the REW installer and select 'Run as administrator...' from the pop-up menu. Under Windows 7 and Windows 10, there is a distinct difference between the local 'Administrator' account and local accounts that are members of the 'Administrators' security group. Old article (2012) referencing Win 7 and UAC (MSDN).

Ok I found the culprit . It fails because I select the "allow multiple instances of REW" option during install. When I uncheck that box the beta installs without any errors and runs fine.

I not find on REW RTA function what allow to calculate each input channel peak levels separately, only average calculation have different options.
Is it somehow possible or really missing?

The RTA doesn't show peak traces for individual inputs when capturing multiple inputs. It could be added but would increase processing load and memory use. Can you say anything about why that's required?

I use it for sound and vibration simultaneous measurements, one channel is measuring sound with mic, other vibration with vibration sensor connected to sound card input. Signals are related but not exactly same and reasonable is to have separate peak calculations. As mainly measurement signal is not from REW output, only reasonable way is to use RTA and peak hold measurements.
