Some guides to REW and acoustic measurement

I don't see them?
One thing I did was to copy and edit the file at the original location and then renamed it. I don't see how that would affect the file extension or how REW sees it.

When you started up REW, did you see this dialog box pop up?

If not, then something went wrong with setting up the file.

Let's see if this is more helpful. Now I get the message about the debug option when I start rew. This is based on 5.20.13.
Some of the logs may be from before connecting the laptop to the avr. Look toward the end of the file for messages related to the avr.

Yes, that's very helpful, thanks. It's showing that the unlikely 7.1 channel mask is reported as unsupported (that's good), and the likely 7.1 channel mask is reported as supported (also good). So the channel mask doesn't appear to be the problem, which suggests the warnings about missing events warrant a look by @phofman .

@acconstantinescu : Please replace the existing dll in your REW installation dir with the attached one (upon unzipping), test, and post the trace log. Thanks!
It seems to work now. I can attach the log file if you want. Let me know.

Thanks a lot. Your device driver sometimes fails to report clock position. Such behavior does correspond to wasapi API specs, but the previous version of csjsound did not respect that. I did a few more changes in this regard, hopefully cleaning the code more. Please test the attached dll and post the trace log. I hope this will be the last cycle
Thanks a lot.

You are welcome. It needs to be tested as I do not have any device which fails that call.
Your help is much appreciated. Here is the latest log file. I don't have any problem if you send me more updates. I can test them too. Will just have to wait after 4th of July.

I am pretty sure I have everything connected okay. I am using the UMK-1 and a USB audio interface that is connected to my speakers. I have the UMIK-1 set as the input device loaded with its calibration file

Hi, it's been a while since I tried REW. Yesterday I tried to measure my center speaker. I remembered I had to use ASIO4ALL. I tried that but in the ASIO control pannel i couldn't find any HDMI output (see the pic below), so i didn't get any output channels in the preferences window.

Anyway, for Java I found an output device (EXCL: Denon HD Audio Driver ...) that gives me outputs for all the channels. So I tried a measurement. Even I set C as the output, I got sound through the left tower instead of the center. Any idea why? I set C as output in preferences as well.

Are you using a V5.30 release? Use the Java driver and an EXCL device, show what the channel mapping is in REW preferences, and try a test tone to each channel and list what speaker you actually hear output from for each one.

I'm using v5.30.3 on a windows laptop.

I tried the pink periodic noise. When I choose L, BL, or SL I get sound only through the left tower. When I choose, R, SR, or BR I get sound only through the right tower. When I choose C or L+R I get sound through both towers. When I choose LFE I get no sound.

On all these cases I used Speaker Cal (500 to 2000 Hz).

Something is forcing stereo downmix. Are you using an HDMI port on the laptop, or some sort of adapter? Is the Denon reporting multichannel input, or stereo, while REW is active? Is the Denon in some sort of stereo output mode?

Yeah. The Denon app shows me PCM, stereo input. The ouput is actually multi channel.

I use an HDMI cable to connect the laptop to the AVR.

Check the Properties for that output device in the Windows Sound control panel, that "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" is enabled, and that all Enhancements are disabled. Are you connected to a rear HDMI port on the Denon, not a front port?
