(August 31, 2026) Ascendo Immersive Audio has never been shy about challenging convention, and CEDIA Expo 2026 may bring one of its most unusual, not to mention consequential, ideas yet. The company’s new Panoramic Surface On-Wall loudspeaker introduces a proprietary full-range composite radiating surface designed to create an exceptionally broad, continuous sound field, with claimed dispersion approaching 180 degrees up to 20 kHz. Rather than behaving like a conventional point-source surround or height speaker, Panoramic Surface is intended to make itself far less obvious as a physical sound source while improving consistency across multiple seats.
That makes the design particularly interesting for immersive home theaters, where surround and overhead speakers are often positioned close to listeners or mounted against architectural boundaries that can complicate performance. Ascendo says Panoramic Surface is engineered to address those real-world challenges by distributing energy across a broader surface, reducing localization and helping minimize the dramatic level changes that can occur when a listener sits unusually close to a speaker. Its on-wall form factor is also intended to work more naturally with nearby walls and ceilings, potentially giving integrators more flexibility when designing around difficult room layouts.
We got our first hands-on look at Panoramic Surface at CEDIA 2026, where Ascendo Co-Managing Partner Geoffrey Heinzel joined us for the speaker’s world unveiling and first unboxing. In the video below, Heinzel walks through the design intent behind the new technology, explains where Ascendo expects it to be used, and discusses how Panoramic Surface will be integrated into Sound Room 10 during the show. If the concept performs as intended, this could represent much more than a single new surround speaker. It could mark the beginning of an entirely new direction for Ascendo's loudspeakers.
