So, I was channel surfing this morning while I had an early lunch... came across "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial"

Not to offend the ET fans of the world, but, wow... it just didn't play well to me. :-/ I watched the last 40 min or so... turned it off... and began wondering why ET's mothership had a ramp so steep that he could barely make it up to the top in an hours time. That paired with the fact that, years ago, I had to take my kids on Disney's head scratchingly (is that even a word?) bizarre ET ride, which I hope has now been removed (to save millions of families from the trauma we endured).

Hate to do this, but I think ET deserves to be first flick enshrined in AV NIRVANA's "Time Crushed HOF"

Man…ooohhhh. I don't know Todd? You might be on your own on that take. That movie is straight America like puppies, apple pie, and baseball.

The time that crushes E.T. is adolescence. It is still great for pre-teens.

Never said it wasn't an iconic movie or one that enjoyed as a kid... some movies just don't age well. But. BUT... you guys certainly don't have to agree!

Anyone else have a flick to nominate?

Ok, I'll play along on a classic that hasn't aged well IMO. I did say my opinion…it's a classic but the last time I tried watching it something wasn't the same for me. Jaws. The sound, picture, and acting was just a bit cheesy. :justdontknow:

My young teen daughters both say it's laughable...

Lots of great quotable lines! But, I agree, some parts of the production look seriously dated (and not in a good way).

That's another one, Jeff... JAWS is in the Time Crushed HOF!

We should keep a master list...

1) ET The Extra Terrestrial
2) Jaws
3) Mortal Combat
4) Hard to Kill
5) Star Trek "The Motion Picture"

I'm glad I'm not alone. :praying:

Watch this and tell me if it sways your opinion:

That's exactly what I'm talking about! :-)

E.Todd... call home please!

You are a BADDDD boy!!! I cannot believe you would nominate E.T. NO NO NO!

Now Jaws! Yes! I can go along with that one, but not ET... just can't do it.

How about Ghostbusters?

Uh-oh.

I've seen Ghostbusters recently (with the kids)... it holds up, IMO ;-)

Here is a question... which would you rather have the memories of how a movie or music sounded to you when you first heard it or how it sounds years later with newer technology? I am thinking that if it sounded great when you first heard it the memory is better to have vs listening to it years later with newer technology advances which might make your memories sounds better than it does now.

What do you think?

I'm okay with middling sound/picture quality. The Right Stuff is one of my favorite films ever... even on the BD Anniversary release the sound was underwhelming....

If the The Towering Inferno doesn't qualify, then The first Die Hard should!

I never should have started this thread. :thud:

Die Hard is one of my favorite all-time classics!

Just goes to show... completely different strokes for different folks!

I'll throw in a couple;
Top Gun

Die Hard? I think the Mods should begin the banning process and make a hard stance against this harasy! Who started this thread?

Not to throw anyone under the bus... It was Todd!

Hmm…he might be untouchable. I'm going to attempt to restore order here and nominate Pretty Woman.

This was a HUGE mistake... but I stand by my ET nomination.

Die Hard... that's on my desert island list ;-)

Yeah, Die Hard would certainly go to the island with me before ET. I showed the thread to my wife looking for her nomination and you'd never guess what she said. Gasp, she said either Star Wars or Indiana Jones!!! :gah:
