An Icon Refined: Bowers & Wilkins Debuts Stunning 800 Series Diamond D5 Series

(June 4, 2026) Some speaker launches introduce entirely new products. Others refine what already works. Bowers & Wilkins' new 800 Series Diamond D5 range firmly falls into the second category, though "refine" might undersell the amount of work that's gone into this latest generation.

Introduced as part of the company's 60th anniversary celebration, the new D5 lineup represents the latest evolution of one of the most recognizable loudspeaker families in high-end audio. For decades, 800 Series models have occupied a rare position in the market, serving both discerning audiophiles and professional recording studios. With D5, Bowers & Wilkins is once again tightening the screws everywhere it can, advancing the platform through a combination of acoustic, mechanical, and electrical improvements.

The lineup consists of seven models that can serve equally well in a dedicated two-channel system or as a reference-grade multichannel arrangement The range begins with the stand-mounted 805 D5 and extends through four floorstanding models, culminating with the flagship 801 D5. Two matching center channel speakers, the HTM81 D5 and HTM82 D5, complete the family for home theater applications.

If there's a common theme throughout the D5 refresh, it's control. Bowers & Wilkins says extensive work was carried out to reduce cabinet-born vibrations, improve mechanical rigidity, and further lower distortion throughout the system. New internal bracing structures, revised aluminum components, upgraded crossover assemblies, improved wiring, and refinements to driver motor systems all contribute to that goal. Rather than introducing a single breakthrough technology, the company has focused on making dozens of smaller improvements that collectively push performance forward.

Several of those updates trace their roots to the company's recent Signature Series loudspeakers. Technologies, components, and lessons learned from those premium models have been folded into the new D5 range, bringing improvements in resolution, dynamics, transparency, and overall refinement across the lineup. Extensive modeling and simulation work conducted at Bowers & Wilkins' Southwater Research Establishment also led to new cabinet treatments designed to further suppress unwanted resonance and coloration.

One of the more notable changes arrives in the 804 D5. The model now employs an internal aluminum enclosure for its Continuum Cone FST midrange driver, borrowing concepts from the Turbine Head architecture used in larger models. The objective through this design move is to provide a more stable and isolated operating environment for the driver while preserving the slimmer profile that has long made the 804 one of the range's most room-friendly floorstanders.

Of course, Bowers & Wilkins never misses an opportunity to revisit aesthetics, and D5 introduces an entirely refreshed collection of finishes. Out goes Satin Rosenut, replaced by a new Dark Walnut finish inspired by the limited-edition 801 Abbey Road model. Joining it are Stealth Black, Warm White, and Light Walnut, each paired with carefully selected trim treatments and updated detailing. The company has also tightened manufacturing tolerances throughout the range, reducing visible gaps, hiding fasteners, and refining paint quality to create a more seamless and luxurious appearance.
