REW Beta Release REW API beta releases

Beta 128 broke the "SPL Offset" function in the Overlay screen here. Backing down to Beta 127 and 126 which previously did have that function did not restore it.
I will try earlier releases....

My bad, Y axis had changed from SPL...

Hello. Can you tell me how to update REW using the fileREW_linux_no_jre_5_40_beta_128-api.sh? Previously, there was always a ... .exe file, and everything was clear. However, when downloading the update, there is no such file!

The file you have listed is for Linux systems, it is a Linux shell file. exe files are for Windows systems, download the Windows 64-bit or 32-bit installer for those.

Hi John,
Thanks for answering my brain-fart query! Hey, I have another one: I have been creating eq setups in REW (fantastic utility BTW!!!:T) and they work great when running in REW. I am trying to load them into my miniDSP Flex HTx but have been unable to do so. I purchased AutoEQ, since there was a button in the miniDSP eq setup that seemed to warrant it but no change. With manufacturer set to miniDSP, in the model selection I have tried:
Flex,
Flex w/Dirac (I own a license for Dirac but have not enabled it in the Flex HTx yet)
48kHz plugin
When I go to the miniDSP console it seems to want to connect to REW but fails. Can you tell me what bone-head thing I am doing wrong?

Cheers!
Howie

To transfer your own EQ settings to miniDSP you save them to file, put the miniDSP EQ in advanced mode and load the file. There are app notes for that on the miniDSP site. To have the unit generate it's own EQ using Auto EQ you need to start the API server in REW from the API preferences tab.

Hi John,
Thank you for the information, I should have RTFM first, but I am at a remote location without internet access and I hate browsing on my phone...my problem, I know...
I believe we purchased the REW Pro upgrade a while ago (2024?) and cannot find the key. If it is not too much of a problem can you check and see if that is the case and if so email it to us so we can enable it in the current installation?

Thank you,
Howard Hoyt

Is there a minimum to calculate the RT60 decay ?. When click on generate in the high precision RT60 decay page it do nothing. No output, no Error Message. RT60 and clarity show good values for this algorithmic create 3 meter x 3 meter x 3 meter(3 meter height is smallest that work in that program because it limit the input to 3 meter or more) room in Hornet spaces. https://www.hornetplugins.com/plugins/hornet-spaces-mk2/

waterfall also ok. because T60m not work, T30 is last that can get. here how T30 look and i insert the correct room volume for this roomsize. attach is the impulse response

Subject: Missing glyphs in Simplified Chinese UI on macOS

Hi,

I found a reproducible display issue in REW on macOS when using the Simplified Chinese UI.

Environment

  • macOS
  • REW macOS version
  • Language: Simplified Chinese
  • Confirmed on two different Macs
Bug Description

In the Simplified Chinese interface, some Latin letters and digits are not rendered. They are not replaced by boxes or fallback glyphs; they simply appear as blank spaces.

So far I have observed at least these characters disappearing:

  • 2
  • L
  • P
For example, a value like:

5.26 m
may appear as:

5. 6 m
The missing character leaves an empty space, so the string layout is still preserved. This does not appear to be a clipping or container-width issue.

The issue occurs only in Simplified Chinese mode. When switching REW to English, the same UI displays correctly.

Changing REW’s UI font size did not fix the issue. Disabling suspected third-party Helvetica Neue fonts also did not fix it. I reproduced the same issue on two different Macs, so it does not appear to be specific to one machine.

Likely Cause

It appears that in the Simplified Chinese UI, REW/Java/FlatLaf selects a font or composite font that causes some ASCII glyphs to render as blanks.

Workaround / Fix Tested

I modified the REW main jar and added the following line to the FlatLaf theme property files:

defaultFont = "PingFang SC"
I added this to the REW theme files, including:

roomeqwizard/themes/FlatLaf.properties<br>roomeqwizard/themes/FlatLightLaf.properties<br>roomeqwizard/themes/FlatDarkLaf.properties<br>roomeqwizard/themes/DBLaf.properties<br>roomeqwizard/themes/DBLightLaf.properties
After forcing the default UI font to PingFang SC, the issue disappeared completely. The missing 2, L, and P characters rendered normally again in the Simplified Chinese UI.

Suggestion

For the macOS Simplified Chinese UI, please consider explicitly setting the default UI font to PingFang SC, or adjusting the font fallback/composite font selection used by Java/FlatLaf in this locale.

PingFang SC is the standard system UI font for Simplified Chinese on macOS, so this seems like a safe and platform-native choice for the zh-Hans UI. This may avoid Java selecting an unsuitable fallback font for mixed Chinese and ASCII text.

Thanks.

I have found a bug when using EQ.

If you EQ a response, and add your own manually EQ to it, when you auto EQ another response, the values of the manual EQ that you applied gets changed on the previous response / all responses that have had manual EQ added.

For example, If I manually add an EQ value to a response that has been auto EQ, and say the Q was 10.0 for example, it could get changed to say 11.2 or something like that if you auto EQ another response.

This has been a bug since I noticed it about 6 months ago.

Not a bug. If you want REW to retain your manual filters uncheck the "Auto EQ" box for those filters.

the classic show no data in rt 60 decay page also when before click on RT60 tab. I have find a page where you can create very small and crazy small room and it can create impulse response easy to confirm that REW t60m is able to show good usable decay time in small rooms. this room can choose with presets from the program. it is very small 3.83 m2 or 7.4 m3. only the classic data is not output, in the rt60 decay page so something confuse REW to display that. on the rt60 page all is show.
Are there still doubts that REW can display useful bass decay times also in small rooms ?. who have create the t60m algorithm ?. mayb it is possible to enhance precision more, but for me it is good enough. it show clear that big speakers cause more huge changes in decay time due to cabinet resonances or something else. you can move the speaker and microphone position in that simulation to see that there no such big changes happen in placement as happen with my diffrent speakers

Classic data is only available for 1/3 octave and 1 octave.

I switch fraction to 1/3 and it show correct also a usefull schroeder integral. i only notice something little, that when switch Octave fraction it do a automatic generate. when change the Results PPO it do no automatic generate. there need press generate after each change.

here how it look with 1/3 and schroeder integral. what do think ?. do you still believe Toole or do you trust your own code what it show for small roooms ?
