Hello all,
I am requesting some direction in a purchasing decison of a new set of floorstanding loudspeakers. I have a very large livingroom in a floorplan that opens to the kitchen. The problem is that I want to fill this space with sound but I do not have a place for a subwoofer, so the speakers I am considering have to be full-range and highly-efficent. My budget max is $4000.00. Some models that I am considering are: The Klipchs RF7-III; the GoldenEar Trition 2+; and the Tekton Design Double Impacts. Wife approval factor is also a consideration. Any other suggestions are welcomed and appreciated, and I thank you all in advanced.
Respectfully,

Ike

Ike... seek out and demo the Triton 2+. Those, IMO, are extremely well balanced and nuanced speakers. Out of the group you've listed, they'd be my choice

Your off to a great start with the list you created, any one of them would be a good choice but agree with Todd that the Tritons would be the best out of the bunch.

I was going to suggest the Martin Logan line as well... and the X would fit the budget perfectly. If you are not opposed to use, check out Audiogon for some Montis, which are spectacular and flat down to 20Hz with Dirac Live in the loop.

Thank you, I don't think I've heard for those. And who would be opposed to saving some money, certainly not this guy. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into this this evening.

I can tell you this... and I ain't just blowin' smoke... the Montis... and the ESL Expression 13A's that I have had in my room are the two best sounding systems I have heard in my lifetime of listening to speakers. That includes $100K+ systems I have heard in many places and many different rooms (homes, RMAF, LSAF, Axpona, CCAF, etc). I have yet to find anything to best those systems... close, yes... but that's it... just close. Note the setup in my room with the flat and solid reflection panels too, tuned and placed by our very own Wayne Myers. http://cedarcreekcinema.ws/

I believe both reviews of these speakers in my room (by Wayne) are on ML's website.

You don't have to go to the extremes that we did for the sound to be marvelous... we were just trying to get every ounce of best sound we could get. Placement is super important and you need to have freedom to place them where they need to be. I'd start with the Cardas recommendations and adjust from there, regardless of the speakers you get.

There is a gentleman around where I live that has been into audio since the late 80's and he has some Martin Logans he wants me to see..I will keep you all posted. Also, I can not thank you enough for the suggestions and advice, I even managed to get my wife excited about the potential purchase.

Electrostatic speakers can produce levels of distortion (THD) orders of magnitude lower than conventional cone drivers in a box... They can be a bit fussy about their room placement to get the most out of them... And well worth the effort...

Enjoy your auditions...

I’m a big fan of the Tekton Double Impacts. Excellent sounding speakers. I really like them. I think Tekton is a value leader right now. To me the quality just feels heads and tails above the competition. If you can get a demo, strongly suggested. Their subs are also a smokin deal if you have the room. That 21” sub sells for about what you would spend to build the same sub.

All of the suggestions are fine ones, I think you just need to demo if possible. Also look for dealers who offer in home demos. Something can sound great in a shop or someone else’s room but not so great in yours.
