(December 19, 2023) As we recently reported, Trinnov's latest firmware update accommodates its new HDMI 2.1 board manufactured by Cypress Technology (CYP). Today, the manufacturer of elite processors announced that it's now shipping all Altitude surround preamp/processors with HDMI 2.1 boards installed and ready to rip. According to the board's specifications, it will accommodate bit rates up to 40 Gbps, which is 8 Gbps shy of the max rate allowed by the HDMI 2.1 specification. That's entirely common across the industry due to the extreme expense and short supply of chips capable of processing 48 Gbps, and won't result in any performance issues for the foreseeable future. In addition, the new board will give owners access to eight inputs and two outputs, all of which offer HDCP 2.3 coverage.
Trinnov, much like its main competitor, StormAudio, has taken its time to implement HDMI 2.1 in its hardware, and owners will benefit from careful levels of development. Upgrade kits for those looking to upgrade their existing Altitude units will become available in late January 2024. For upgrading Altitude16 processors, certified dealers can field-upgrade units that currently have a Cypress HDMI 2.0 board installed. All Altitude32 and Altitude16 processors with older MDS HDMI 2.0 boards must be sent to Trinnov for the upgrade. These upgrades are expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
In mid-December, a firmware upgrade, version 4.3.2, will enable the HDMI 2.1 board’s feature set. Note, this new VMX-H8K-8201 board provides two HDMI 2.1 outputs with identical capacity, and the EDID priority ships set to Output 2. All features available on the current Cypress HDMI 2.0 board are also included, except the downscaling feature on HDMI Output 1.
Trinnov says that customers interested in upgrading to HDMI 2.1 should contact their local dealer.
