Love the setup!! I wonder how those high ceilings play into a sense of spaciousness in that room??

I'd love to hear what it sounds like. I'm imagining it has a natural height to it.

Looks great!!! I'll bet those horns, along with the rest of your kit, sound wonderful...

I wonder what an IR of your room and kit would sound like in my room with my kit... Convolution reverb anyone?

Thanks, I am hoping my next mod to the system makes a nice improvement. I have some of the parts on the way and my friend will be able to start after the first of the year cutting up parts on a saw and CNC.

The room really came together nicely. A wonderful place to listen to music or watch a movie. Very nice work!

I designed a new Audio Rack, and commissioned the 3 1/16" steel rack shelves. Next I will be looking for some column made of wood and turned on a lathe. Once that is done...I will make a drawing for the shelves. I am contemplating getting some 1/2" Mesquite hardwood and sandwich the steel inbetween them, and then a 3/4 or1" shelf on top of the steel frame with spikes or maybe sorbathane.

Any ideas if that would have a benefit vs not having it sandwiched around the steel?

I also am waiting on an estimate for 2 Tuba 15 TH subs, and a prototype MDF horn to go on top.

I like Mesquite and Red Oak bark 50/50 for BBQ Quail and Tri-Tip... And I am not so sure Mesquite is a "tone wood"... I use Maple, which is the hardest of the "tone woods"... I would just set a block of thick "tone wood" on the steel shelf using some thick felt to isolate the block from the shelf...

You always amaze me with the things you build :hail: so I will patiently wait to see what you come up with...

Mesquite is a high end wood in Mexico and is very heavy. I will check Maple out along with buying a butcher block countertop and cutting it up.

I was looking for what woods are tone woods and found this... "There are about 9 different sub species of what is commonly called mesquite. All are Acacias. The two most commonly used in lutherie are Honey Mesquite and Red Mesquite. Mainly because they grow a large enough gurth to be usable. most the other mesquites are slinder trees or scrub brush. Red Mesquite is fairly closely related to Koa. Has a simalir color buy a bit less intense red but close. All most all Acasia including most mesquite are very stable woods once dry. As far as tap tone Red Mesquite is very simalir to Tazmainian Blackwood another Acasia. Honey Mesquite is more of a golden color with a tap tone that reminds me of Sapeele. Both Honey and Red Mesquite are quite hard with interlocking grain structure and will dull tools quickly. But they make wounerful tone woods both sonicly and visualy.". https://www.mylespaul.com/threads/mesquite-as-a-tone-wood.138237/

I will have to check out which tone wood I like by availability, looks and price

I received my 4 shelf supports today from the welder and I started working on rounding the corners off. Next I am going to have some wood turned (40 pieces) all to 12" long 1 1/2", and once those are done i will finish rounding the corners . Once the corners are done I would like to have the 4 shelf supports painted professionally with Automotive paint. I am also thinking of getting some black stick on sound absorption (something like Dynamat or just felt) to attach to the shelves Once I get that far i will get the shelves made and then I will get the cabinet made to enclose the rack... I want to get slotted sides with grill cloth on the inside and have the sides front and back removeable. each shelf will hold 3 components. I have not decided yet if I want all 4 shelves or just 3 for now.

I can’t wait to see this unsightly piece of metal turned into a beautiful shelf. You’ve got skills, sir.

Well about the only thing I am doing is designing the rack, and assembling...other than grinding the corners so they are the same distance or recessed under the wood uprights. I am thinking either mesquite or Purple heart for the uprights.. I need to check on the prices before I decide. The exterior I want to be similar to this, but the sides and front and rear panels will be all removable for moving.

With something similar to this on the inside, but 3 wide and wood uprights.

I think you just proved my point. :)

Just dropped off the shelves at the bodyshop...picking up Saturday. They are painting them a metallic charcoal grey.If I end up doing speaker cabinets....I will most likely have them painted to match.

Today I went to my carpenter and purchased some 1 1/2" thick Perota hardwood. My carpenter will be turning 40 pieces to make 40 1 1/2" diameter and 12" long. When I pick them up they will be already sanded and clear coated on Monday.

Total cost for the Perota and all labor and materials today was $100.
Total cost so far on the rack project $600

Nice work so far... Have you seen these? https://www.salamanderdesigns.com/chameleon-collection/zurich/

I almost got one of these and then I realized my current AV rack would work fine with my UST PJ... LOL... If I get any more gear I will have to get one...
I had looked at various ones online, but i wanted it a bit different...hence a metal rack with wooden uprights, and wooden shelves inside of a slatted cabinet. I am also thinking of using this with a UST projector. It is all going to depend on how tall I make this cabinet. If I make it 3' tall it ight work, but if I make it 4' tall...I doubt it.

You will have to look at the recommended screen size and UST PJ placement... There are also calculators on some vendor and reseller web sites that can give you some Ideas about screen size and placement along with and pj placement... Like: https://www.projectorscreen.com/projector-screen-calculators

In my instance, the top of the AV rack is 20 inches from the floor... The PJ is ~12 inches from the wall.. Fills a 103 inch screen... The PJ can go all the way up to a 120 inch screen and in my room that would be too large, covering virtually the entire wall...

I am still blown away with the image every time I turn it on...
