(November 3, 2026) Magnetar has some good news for physical media fans. The company's flagship UDP900MKII and its more affordable sibling, the UDP800MKII, have officially earned THX Certification, adding another credential to two of the more interesting universal disc players currently on the market. Both models support an extensive range of physical media formats, including 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, and SACD, along with playback of digital media files. We recently spent considerable time reviewing the UDP900MKII, putting its performance capabilities under the microscope and conducting some interesting comparisons with other popular players, including Panasonic's UB9000 and OPPO's UDP-203. If you'd like to dig deeper into the UDP900MKII and see how it performed, you can read our full review here.

The latest news, THX's stamp of performance approval, might not mean much to current owners. After all, certification doesn't change how either player operates, nor does it unlock new performance capabilities. But for potential buyers weighing their options in a relatively small market of premium universal disc players, it's another credential worth considering. THX Certification involves independent testing and evaluation against established performance criteria to ensure that certified equipment meets the company's standards for audio and video reproduction. That outside validation carries some weight, particularly when you're considering spending several thousand dollars on a dedicated playback device. The announcement also follows Roon Ready certification earlier this year, further strengthening Magnetar's credentials as a manufacturer committed to supporting both physical media and modern digital playback.

"THX Certification is a critical independent validation that enthusiasts and integrators look for when building reference-grade systems," said Rob Jones, President of Magnetar North America. "We're proud to see both MKII models earn their certification. It reflects the engineering and feedback from customers and dealers that went directly into the creation of the MKII Series, and it gives customers added confidence that these players will deliver the performance they expect, whether that is in a dedicated home theater or a living room."

THX echoed that sentiment, with Steven P. Martz, Vice President of Global Technology Partnerships at THX Ltd., confirming that both players deserved his company's recognition. Martz pointed to Magnetar's commitment to preserving the intended audio and visual experience as a natural fit for the THX Certification program. While the announcement doesn't detail the specific measurements or individual test results, the certification adds an independent performance credential to a product category where build quality, format compatibility, and playback accuracy remain important considerations.

Both players are available now through Magnetar and its authorized dealer network. The flagship UDP900MKII carries an MSRP of $3,399.99, while the UDP800MKII is priced at $1,899.99.
