MartinLogan USR51 Brings Anthem ARC Genesis and Surround Sound to an Ultra-Slim AVR

(October 16, 2026) The AV industry has become remarkably good at making technology disappear. Televisions hang almost flush against the wall, architectural speakers blend into their surroundings, and even high-performance on-wall speakers have become increasingly discreet. And then there's the AV receiver, a component that, for the most part, still demands a substantial amount of shelf or cabinet space. MartinLogan's new USR51 takes aim at that disconnect, introducing an ultra-slim receiver that's designed to disappear behind a television, tuck into an in-wall media box, or slip into furniture that would never accommodate a traditional AVR. Developed in partnership with Anthem and built on the architecture of its MRX SLM receiver, the USR51 measures just 1.5" tall, giving installers an interesting option for bringing legitimate multichannel audio into living spaces without surrendering valuable real estate to bulky electronics.

Despite its compact dimensions, the USR51 isn't a stripped-down amplifier. It provides five channels of amplification rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms or 92 watts per channel into 4 ohms, both measured with two channels driven. There's onboard Dolby Atmos and DTS decoding, with support for traditional 5.1 surround or a 3.1.2 configuration that trades the two surround speakers for a pair of height channels. More importantly, MartinLogan has incorporated Anthem's ARC Genesis room correction system, bringing a sophisticated calibration platform into a form factor where advanced processing might not be expected. ARC Genesis uses a series of in-room measurements to account for the acoustic behavior of the listening space, allowing owners and integrators to optimize playback, especially in rooms with less-than-ideal acoustic properties.

Installation flexibility is another major part of the story. MartinLogan includes a mounting bracket compatible with standard VESA patterns, allowing the USR51 to be secured behind a television, while removable Phoenix-style speaker terminals simplify wiring in tight spaces. For more conventional installations, the receiver can occupy just 1U of rack space using an optional mounting kit. Connectivity is intentionally streamlined, with a single HDMI input, an HDMI output supporting eARC, plus optical and analog audio inputs. Rather than handling switching for a collection of video sources like a traditional AVR, the USR51 is designed primarily around the television serving as the central hub, passing audio back to the receiver through eARC. Apple AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, and Bluetooth add wireless streaming options, while IP and IR control, the Anthem Remote App, and compatibility with platforms such as Control4, Savant, Crestron, and Josh.ai make it an attractive option for custom integration.

MartinLogan sees the USR51 as a natural partner for its Motion SLM, Motion Compact, and all-new Motion Discrete Cinema, as well as its architectural speaker families, and that pairing makes plenty of sense. While this isn't a receiver intended to replace the flexibility, connectivity, or sheer power of a full-sized AVR, it addresses a practical installation problem that's become increasingly common as living spaces embrace larger displays and less-visible audio equipment.

The MartinLogan USR51 is available through authorized MartinLogan dealers and integrators beginning October 2026, with a suggested retail price of $1,299.99.
