ASCENDO Introduces THE MULE 10, a High-Powered Kick Woofer

(October 27, 2026) ASCENDO Immersive Audio has built quite a reputation for pushing the boundaries of bass reproduction, including some downright monstrous infrasonic subwoofers. Its latest introduction, however, heads in a different direction. Called THE MULE 10, this purpose-built passive "kick woofer" is designed to reproduce the hard-hitting, physical impact that gives music and movie soundtracks their sense of punch and immediacy. Think of the chest-thumping attack of a kick drum or the explosive impact of a cinematic moment, rather than the deep, rolling rumble of an earthquake. ASCENDO's thinking is that these experiences don't necessarily need to come from the same loudspeaker. By concentrating on the upper-bass region and leaving the deepest frequencies to dedicated subwoofers, THE MULE 10 aims to deliver substantial impact without adding unnecessary energy to the lowest frequencies, where troublesome room modes can make bass difficult to control.

This approach opens the door to several interesting applications. THE MULE 10 can be paired with speakers that are intentionally rolled off around 80Hz, providing additional low-frequency authority without requiring the main channels to handle the entire bass spectrum. ASCENDO specifically points to its THE5, THE6, THE10, and THE12 loudspeakers as potential partners, while larger systems can combine THE MULE 10 with conventional and infrasonic subwoofers for more complete bass coverage. There's also an application for near-field bass, where placing dedicated low-frequency drivers close to the listening position can produce a particularly visceral experience without necessarily requiring massive output throughout the room. And for systems running Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART), THE MULE 10 offers another potential low-frequency support source, allowing the correction system to take advantage of additional speakers within their usable operating range. ]

To deliver its capabilities, THE MULE 10 packs some impressive specifications. Its 10" carbon-composite cone is designed to be both lightweight and rigid, while an enormous 4.5" voice coil provides the thermal capacity needed to withstand demanding playback conditions. ASCENDO rates the driver to handle 2,500 watts, with a whopping 5,000 watts of peak power capability, substantial figures for a driver of this size. A heavy-duty cast frame provides structural stability, while the enclosure uses thick aluminum front and rear plates with internal bracing to help maintain rigidity under high-output conditions.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of THE MULE 10 is how little space it requires. Despite its heavy-duty construction, the enclosure measures less than 4" deep and is narrow enough to fit between standard 16" on-center wall studs, making it a candidate for installations where conventional subwoofer cabinets simply aren't practical. Adjustable brackets can be positioned on the top or sides and rotated to accommodate different mounting orientations, including in-wall and ceiling installations, while integrated keyhole hangers make on-wall mounting an option. A magnetic black stretch-fabric grille completes the package, allowing the finished installation to remain relatively discreet.

ASCENDO hasn't announced U.S. pricing or a specific shipping date.
