Klipsch Reference Premiere Compact Subs Bring Big Bass to Smaller Spaces at Audio Advice Live 2026

(August 8, 2026) Klipsch came to Audio Advice Live 2026 with multiple major worldwide launches, giving attendees in Raleigh a first look at some meaningful updates to its home theater lineup. We’ve already covered the company’s new Reference Premiere III loudspeaker series, and arriving alongside it is another fresh addition: the Reference Premiere Compact Subwoofer Series. Built around three sealed models, the RP-1600CSW, RP-1400CSW, and RP-1200CSW are designed to deliver serious low-frequency impact while taking up far less room than Klipsch’s larger Reference Premiere subwoofers. For home theater fans and two-channel listeners trying to add real bass without turning a room into a subwoofer showroom, these new models are seriously compelling.

Klipsch’s larger ported RP subs remain the heavy artillery, using bigger cabinets and ported designs to produce maximum output and deep extension. These new compact models take a different path. Their sealed acoustic suspension enclosures are smaller, easier to place, and about half the footprint of their larger brothers, yet they still bring plenty of punch to the party. Compared with similarly sized ported models, the tradeoff is roughly a few dB of maximum output, not a cliff dive in performance. What you gain is floor space, placement flexibility, and the behavior many listeners appreciate from sealed cabinets: tighter control, cleaner transient response, and a sharper low-frequency rolloff that plays especially well with both music and movies when properly integrated.

Klipsch hasn’t stripped these models down to make them smaller, either. Each subwoofer uses a front-firing, high-excursion Cerametallic woofer, a precision analog preamp stage, and a high-efficiency Class D amplifier. Rear panel controls include crossover, phase, and gain, with high contrast labeling to make setup easier when you’re leaning behind a cabinet in bad lighting. And yes, in a very Klipsch move, the gain control goes to 11. The neighbors have been warned.

The flagship model is the RP-1600CSW, a 16" sealed subwoofer that measures 19.22" H x 18.33" W x 18.33" D. It uses an Ultra Long Throw Cerametallic woofer powered by an 800W RMS, 1600W peak Class D amplifier, with rated frequency response down to 14.5Hz and maximum acoustic output listed at 123dB. That’s the kind of spec package that should make home theater fans stop and look, especially given its $1,499.99 price point. A 16" sealed sub that digs that deep, hits that hard, and doesn’t require a massive enclosure is exactly the kind of product that makes sense for rooms where space matters but bass still needs to show up with authority.

The RP-1400CSW sits in the middle of the lineup, using a 14" Ultra Long Throw Cerametallic woofer in a cabinet measuring 17.48" H x 16.6" W x 16.6" D. Power is rated at 500W RMS and 1000W peak, with frequency response reaching down to 15Hz and maximum acoustic output listed at 121dB. This might end up being the sweet spot for a lot of buyers, offering nearly the same deep bass reach as the larger model in an even more manageable footprint. For media rooms, music systems, or home theaters where two subs might be the end goal, the RP-1400CSW looks like a particularly interesting option.

The smallest model, RP-1200CSW, keeps the same basic design approach while shrinking things even further. It uses a 12" Ultra Long Throw Cerametallic woofer, 400W RMS and 800W peak amplification, and a cabinet measuring 15.73" H x 14.84" W x 16.38" D. Klipsch rates frequency response down to 17Hz, with maximum acoustic output listed at 118dB. That makes it the easiest of the three to tuck into tighter spaces while still reaching low enough to add meaningful weight to movie soundtracks, games, and music.

Connectivity is straightforward but flexible. Each model includes dual RCA/LFE line-level inputs and a dedicated wireless input compatible with Klipsch’s nifty WA-2 Wireless Subwoofer Kit. The wired and wireless inputs can also be used at the same time, allowing one subwoofer to support more than one system in the same room. That could be a useful trick for spaces where a stereo rig and home theater setup share the same footprint.

Visually, the Reference Premiere Compact Subwoofers keep Klipsch’s familiar black and copper identity intact. The cabinets feature scratch-resistant Ebony vinyl, rounded edges, shock-absorbing rubber feet, copper accents, and floating fabric grilles. Of course, that styling helps them match Klipsch’s new RP III loudspeakers and the rest of the RP family.

All three models are scheduled to be available in November through Klipsch.com and authorized Klipsch retailers. Pricing is set at $1,499.99 for the RP-1600CSW 16" High Excursion Compact Subwoofer, $1,099.99 for the RP-1400CSW 14" High Excursion Compact Subwoofer, and $849.99 for the RP-1200CSW 12" High Excursion Compact Subwoofer.
