(July 30, 2026) Theory Audio Design has become one of those CEDIA stops you dare not miss. Over the last several years, the company has delivered stellar demo after stellar demo, making a strong case for its mix of bespoke loudspeakers, architectural designs, serious amplification, and controlled system engineering. We’ve heard everything from traditional speaker layouts to in-wall systems that punch well beyond what their footprint suggests, and last year, company founder Paul Hales gave AV NIRVANA a private bass session that was memorable enough to keep Theory near the top of our watch list heading into 2026.
Now, as CEDIA Expo is approaching, Theory is bringing new hardware to the table, announcing five new amplified loudspeaker controllers, including a new addition to its DLC Series and four models in a brand new PLC Series. The launch gives Theory customers and installers access to higher power configurations, more complex system design options, Dante and AES67 networking, advanced DSP, and expanded support for residential, professional, large venue, and live sound applications.
The new DLC model is the DLC-1500.8d, an 8 channel amplified loudspeaker controller rated at 6000W in a 2U chassis. Theory says it can deliver 1500W into 4 or 8 ohms from any channel pair, or 800W into 2 or 4 ohms with all channels driven. It also includes upgraded high-current Euroblock output connectors that accept up to 10-gauge wire, along with 4 channels of Dante and AES67 audio over IP digital I/O.
The DLC-1500.8d can drive up to 32 Theory 16 ohm loudspeakers in low-impedance mode, or more than 300 speakers directly in high-impedance mode without an internal transformer. That makes it especially interesting for systems that need a lot of loudspeakers spread across a large footprint, whether that’s a sprawling residential install, a commercial space, or a venue where coverage and control matter as much as raw output. The controller can be configured through its onboard web interface using wired Ethernet or its onboard WiFi access point, and it includes matrix mixing, priority audio routing and ducking, parametric EQ, delay, gain, and limiter DSP tools.
Control and integration support also appears to be broad. Theory says full API support and modules are available for AMX, Control4, Crestron, Crestron Home, ELAN, Josh.ai, Q-SYS, RTI, and Symetrix.
An equally intriguing launch is Theory's new PLC Series. Built around Powersoft’s patented Class D amplification and signal processing technologies, the PLC lineup uses SmartRail energy management power supplies, Power Factor Correction, and advanced DSP architecture. Add Theory’s proprietary loudspeaker presets, and the PLC Series is meant to give integrators a powerful, scalable amplifier and control platform for systems that need high output and precise tuning.
The PLC Series includes four models, each aimed at high power system design in a compact 1U chassis. The PLC-4K8 delivers 8 channels at 500W per channel, while the PLC-8K8 doubles that output to 8 channels at 1,000W per channel. The PLC-9K4 shifts to a 4-channel configuration with 2,250W per channel, and at the top of the range, the PLC-16K4 delivers 4 channels at 4,000W per channel. That’s a notable amount of power in a single rack space, especially for systems that need serious output without giving up rack efficiency.
Key PLC platform features include proprietary Theory loudspeaker presets, native Dante and AES67 audio over IP networking, all-channel power sharing, and three configurable 1Gb network ports with one PoE connection. Theory also lists easy-swap USB key amplifier restore and maritime compliance among the platform features. That combination should make the PLC Series useful across a wide range of installs, from premium residential theaters and distributed audio projects to professional and large format applications where reliability, serviceability, and networked audio are increasingly important.
All five new Theory loudspeaker controllers are available now and scheduled to be on display at CEDIA Expo 2026 in Booth 1300.
