(July 2, 2026) Meet the new Scala Utopia Evo M, the latest evolution of a loudspeaker lineage that stretches back to 2008. Succeeding the Scala Utopia Evo introduced in 2017, the Evo M incorporates several of Focal's latest driver technologies from both its professional studio monitors and flagship wireless loudspeakers, representing the most significant update the Scala platform has received in nearly a decade.

For this refresh, Focal focused on refining nearly every aspect of the speaker while preserving the three-way architecture that's made the line a fixture in the Utopia family. The biggest changes arrive in the midrange and tweeter, where two of the company's newest technologies make their passive loudspeaker debut. Together, they're positioned to deliver greater transparency, lower distortion, and a more natural presentation without altering the unmistakable character that's long defined the Utopia name.

The headline addition is Focal's new PRISM tweeter, which first appeared in the recently introduced Diva Alta Utopia. Built around a new M-profile inverted dome and paired with the company's IAL2 (Infinite Acoustic Loading) technology, PRISM replaces the previous Scala Utopia Evo's pure beryllium tweeter design with a new multi-material membrane created through an advanced micro-structuring process. The result is a tweeter that achieves even greater rigidity while maintaining the delicate balance of light weight and internal damping required for exceptional high-frequency reproduction. The company rates the tweeter's response to 40kHz, promising greater extension, cleaner detail, and improved integration with the rest of the speaker.

Perhaps just as significant is a redesigned 5" midrange driver. Borrowed from Focal's Utopia Main professional studio monitor, it combines the company's well-known W composite sandwich cone with a reinforced one-piece M-profile geometry and TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) suspension. The goal here is to reduce unwanted cone movement and distortion to achieve natural-sounding vocals and instruments. A neodymium motor and oversized 80mm voice coil further improve control and power handling, helping preserve clarity even during demanding musical passages.

Of course, any floorstander worth its weight needs a potent low end. The Scala Utopia Evo M features a completely redesigned 11" W woofer driven by a dual-ferrite motor developed to deliver deeper, faster, and more controlled bass.

Focal has also revised the crossover network, introducing its OPC+ system that allows users to fine-tune bass and treble levels by ±1dB to better match room acoustics and personal preferences. Complementing those drivers is the company's Gamma Structure cabinet, constructed from high-density MDF panels measuring up to 2⅜" thick and optimized through vibration mapping for maximum rigidity. Focal's Focus Time architecture mechanically aligns the drivers toward the listening position, while a large laminar bass port helps reduce airflow noise and dynamic compression during demanding passages.

As with every Utopia loudspeaker, craftsmanship remains central to the experience. The cabinets are built in Burgundy (France) by Focal's woodworking team, while the drivers are manufactured in Saint-Étienne, allowing the company to maintain complete control over design, engineering, and production. Visually, the Scala Utopia Evo M remains unmistakably Utopia, pairing its sculptural multi-section cabinet with a refined selection of high-gloss and real-wood finishes intended to complement luxury interiors as much as serious listening rooms.

The Focal Scala Utopia Evo M will be available beginning in August 2026. Black High Gloss, Off White High Gloss, and Warm Taupe High Gloss finishes are priced at $50,000 per pair, while Light Walnut with an Off White front panel and Dark Walnut with a Sepia Brown front panel are priced at $56,000 per pair.
