While many network streamers combine multiple functions into a single chassis, BROEN is unapologetically specialized. At its core is Ferrum's newly developed SERCE Digital-to-Digital Converter (DDC), which handles every stage of digital signal processing before passing audio to an external DAC. By keeping the entire signal path in the digital domain, Ferrum says it can better preserve timing accuracy while minimizing electrical interference that can negatively impact playback quality. Galvanically isolated outputs and ultra-low-jitter clocking further support that goal by helping ensure the outgoing digital signal remains as clean and precise as possible.
Networking flexibility is another major focus. In addition to conventional Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity, BROEN includes a modular SFP network port. While most users will simply install the included RJ45 Ethernet module, those with compatible networking hardware can instead use an optical SFP module to create a fiber optic network connection. The advantage is reduced electrical noise traveling between network equipment and the audio system, an approach increasingly embraced by enthusiasts building dedicated digital playback systems.
Ferrum has also designed BROEN to integrate tightly with its own ecosystem. When connected to one of the company's WANDLA DACs via USB, Ferrum Streaming Control Technology (FSCT) allows playback to be managed directly from the DAC's touchscreen or remote control. Album artwork, artist information, and playback status are all displayed on the WANDLA interface, giving the two components the feel of a single integrated product rather than separate devices working independently.
Owners of Ferrum's HYPSOS power management system can take integration a step further. Connected using Ferrum Power Link, the two components communicate electronically, allowing HYPSOS to continuously optimize power delivery based on BROEN's operating requirements.
Powering the streaming experience is the well-established Volumio platform, providing support for Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay, UPnP/DLNA, internet radio, multi-room playback, CD playback, AI-powered SuperSearch, Infinity Playback, and enhanced artist and album metadata. The platform also supports over-the-air firmware updates, while an internal SSD slot provides the option of adding onboard music storage as a library grows over time.
The Ferrum BROEN network streaming transport is available now with a suggested retail price of $2,275.
