Esoteric Grandioso K1XE Delivers True Flagship SACD Playback, but It Will Shock Your Wallet

(October 22, 2026) Every now and then, an audio manufacturer introduces something that gives us a peek into the rarefied world of ultra-high-end Hi-Fi, where budgets are decidedly flexible, and the pursuit of audio perfection can take priority over practically everything else. Esoteric's latest announcement certainly qualifies. The Japanese manufacturer has introduced the Grandioso K1XE, a new flagship Super Audio CD player that carries a price tag capable of going toe-to-toe with a rather nice set of wheels. And that's before we get to the optional external power supply, which costs enough to buy a respectable used car all by itself. This is serious equipment for an exceedingly well-heeled audience, but it's also an interesting look at just how far a manufacturer is willing to take disc playback when cost is far from the overriding concern.

The Grandioso K1XE is built around Esoteric's proprietary VRDS-ATLAS transport, a substantial disc mechanism designed to minimize vibration and improve the precision of CD and SACD playback. VRDS stands for Vibration-Free Rigid Disc-Clamping System, which uses a turntable with a diameter matching the disc to hold it securely during rotation. Esoteric says the arrangement helps suppress vibration, correct disc warpage, and maintain accurate alignment between the optical pickup and the disc's data layer. The mechanism itself weighs approximately 14.6 pounds, climbing to nearly 30 pounds with its mounting base, while the complete K1XE tips the scales at roughly 75 pounds. The player also features a multilayer chassis, specialized isolation feet, and a semi-floating top panel, all intended to help keep unwanted mechanical energy from interfering with playback.

Inside, Esoteric has introduced its second-generation Master Sound Discrete DAC G2, an entirely proprietary digital-to-analog conversion platform that relies on carefully selected discrete components rather than conventional DAC chips. Its FPGA-based architecture uses a 64-bit, 512Fs delta-sigma modulator, with independently optimized processing algorithms for PCM and DSD. The new G2 design also incorporates a lower-noise resistor network, extensively separated power supply circuits, and beefed-up analog output buffers derived from Esoteric's Grandioso D1X SE. The K1XE uses a fully dual-mono configuration with five independent linear power supplies dedicated to the DAC channels, disc transport, digital circuitry, and control electronics. It also functions as a standalone DAC, accepting digital sources through USB, optical, XLR, and Esoteric's proprietary ES-Link 5 connection.

Digital playback support extends to PCM at 768kHz and DSD at 22.5MHz through supported digital inputs, giving the K1XE considerably more to do than simply spin silver discs.

The optional Grandioso PS1XE takes Esoteric's pursuit of electrical isolation a step further. Designed to work with the K1XE and select other Grandioso components, this substantial external power supply houses four independent transformers that separately feed the left and right DAC circuits and their corresponding analog output buffers. Connecting the PS1XE disables the associated internal transformers in the player, reducing potential sources of mechanical vibration and magnetic interference while providing dedicated power to those sensitive circuits. Esoteric has also incorporated optimized power filtering, a multilayer chassis, a semi-floating top panel, and specialized isolation feet. And if you're wondering how substantial a dedicated power supply can possibly be, the PS1XE weighs approximately 51 pounds. That's a lot of engineering devoted to squeezing whatever additional performance Esoteric believes can be extracted from an already elaborate digital source.

The Esoteric Grandioso K1XE and Grandioso PS1XE are scheduled for worldwide shipment beginning in November 2026. The K1XE carries a U.S. suggested retail price of $45,000, while the optional PS1XE power supply adds $19,000, bringing the complete pairing to $64,000.
