Coronavirus Outbreak

Wonder how the KungFlu (COVID-19) reacts to sliver...

Political Correctness... The power of language to manipulate the masses...

yahoo,

"A federal government plan to combat the coronavirus warned policymakers last week that a pandemic “will last 18 months or longer” and could include “multiple waves,” resulting in widespread shortages that would strain consumers and the nation’s health care system. The 100-page plan, dated Friday, the same day President Donald Trump declared a national emergency, laid out a grim prognosis for the spread of the virus and outlined a response that would activate agencies across the government and potentially employ special presidential powers to mobilize the private sector."

The Main thing is to continue to wash hands especially after going outside to get supplies.

It is time to load up on the Gin and Tonic... ;^)

Please keep this thread related to the virus if you want to discuss that... keep the politics out of it. You can get upset with every politician and every news agency if you are wanting to find fault with someone... they are all bad, they have all called names, splattered misinformation and played politics with a horrible situation. There is nothing good about politics, both sides are evil, both sides are divisive, and they are all to blame for bad politics, yet none of them are to blame for this virus... and no one individual could have done anything to stop it. Something like this is going to creep into our society and spread no matter what we do. The only solution that has ever existed is to fight it with sensible solutions, not with blame, which doesn't fix anything, it just divides and causes contentions.

If you want to discuss the virus itself or ways to help people do their best to avoid it, or the effects it may be having in your country, community or business, without involving politics and without mentioning or blaming anyone for it, then we can keep it civil and move on. Otherwise, if politics are brought up again in any thread, the thread will be deleted without explanation or further discussion.

In Texas, to try and flatten the curve, (to stop the spread and overwhelm the health system), emergency declaration was done..

I hope all states do this soon before it is too late and people especially listen and do social distancing as well as self isolation as much as possible.

from kvue,

[*]]Every person in Texas must avoid social gatherings that have more than 10 people.
[*]People should avoid eating and drinking at bars, restaurants and food courts or visiting gyms. There will be no dining at bars or restaurant dining rooms since they will be closed. Restaurants can still offer take-out options.
[*]People shall not visit nursing homes, retiring centers or long-term care facilities unless they're providing critical care assistance.
[*]All Texas schools must close temporarily. This does not mean that education stops. Superintendents will continue to work with the Texas Education Agency to continue online or additional educational options.

And most importantly, continue to wash your hands with soap and water!

Looks like NY and California are also trying to flatten the curve to lesson the impact.

Good for them as well.

From yahoo,

"New York state joined California on Friday in ordering nearly all residents to stay home, as governors watched with growing alarm as southern Europe buckled under the strain of the coronavirus outbreak. "

To understand what flattening the curve means, see here.

Illinois has joined California. Tomorrow at 5PM we will shelter in place. :T

Are they closing all non-essential businesses in all of these states?

I know PA, NV, and TN have closed all non-essential businesses with the exception of take out for restaurants.

We have have close restaurants except for take out here in Alabama... but non-essential businesses remain open to the public.

In Texas, restaurants, bars, gyms are all closed as well as schools and I believe almost all churches are closed as well, most having online access only for worship.

you can order take out from restaurants and can order alcohol as long as it comes with the food.

Pharmacy, gas stations, banks and grocery stores are open but at reduced hours.

Entertainment places such as theaters and concert venues are closed as well.

We don’t have “shelter in place” where we are stuck at home but are encouraged to not gather someplace with more than 10 people and to stay at home as much as possible.

state by state breakdown is below

Yeah... we have closed restaurants, gyms, schools (Troy University here is the large International school in the world)... and we have called off our worship services... most all congregations and religious organizations are not meeting. Some grocery stores and Walmart have reduced hours. Most other businesses are staying open.

The faster people stay away from others to help stop the spread and infection, the faster this virus will go away and we all can go back to business as usual.

The key is that everybody has to comply and do social distancing for this to work. :)

I don't understand why our government hasn't done more. First they limited gatherings to 500 people, now they are saying 100 people which is still way too large, yet schools are still open.
Where I work we have around 100 staff and 1000 students! Thankfully I do not work directly with the students as I am not a teacher.

The cases here are still rising exponentially.

Actually Schools should be the first place to close during any health crisis especially when it comes to germs.

schools are the perfect place for germs to gather and infect. Once kids leave school, they then infect their homes and anyplace they go.

Also for some unknown reason, kids are more than likely to be potential carriers of this particular virus than any other virus and they only are the ones that are potentially spreading to others. Most kids so far anyway according to news instead of getting very sick, get mild or low sickness.

schools most definitely should be shut!!

See This video from Israel talking about separating grandkids from grandparents

Even here on the news, they mentioned this as well. Grandkids need to be away from grandparents during this health crisis.

They were showing videos of all the kids at the beach on spring break this past week... unbelievable. Like a pack of sardines, drunk and wallowing all over each other. I bet several had it, shared it... and now they will bring it home to their families and share it some more.

yeah, young people, while they can get it, can survive without much issue. For most, it is very mild. The drawback, is that it is lethal for older people, especially, for those who have underlying medical conditions..

They should have closed the beach..

The beaches here are closed and the poor lifeguards are getting abused by people who want to use them.
On a different note, I just received a message from the Principal asking if I would work from home, due to my age and ongoing health issues that put me in the high risk group.

Best you stay at home for your safety..

Sonnie, see the link below. We all agree with this reporter.

South Korea just had a 17yo die, and Italy is now saying any age is susceptible to dying from Corona. Northern California has closed all non essential businesses, and told people to stay home and also to distance.

In Mexico we have just been told to distance, and all government run gatherings like our sports park are closed. When we go to the store for supplies the workers are wiping down all carts, wearing masks, and gloves.
We started a lockdown in our house Monday last week. When I receive packages... I have the delivery person put the package in our gated front yard, and I let it sit there for a day or two. I use gloves, and a mask whenever I come within 6' of anyone and no contact period!

Yeah, best to be extra cautious.. Since this virus can stay on objects for long periods of time, best to be extra cautious..

I just hope young people start to understand the high risk they are taking by ignoring social distancing..
