Hi Guys, I am looking to purchase an Eq. but I dont know which one .

Any Advise would be very helpful.

Its going to be part of my Home cinema room.

Cheers Peter

What will the equalizer be used for? Mains? Subs? Atmos speakers?

Regards,
Wayne

Hardware, want to eq the mains and the sub, but I am guessing the sub will require a separate eq, I havent seen eq that has both.

the room is only a smallish size 5mtr x 3.6mtr x 2.4mtr.

I realise there are a few things needed to be done, but i figured starting with the mains, getting them sorted out, should be a good starting point.

Most home cinema systems that include the obligatory AVR or prepro incorporate an EQ system. What AVR/prepro do you have and what EQ is in it?

+1 Kal. Is this a Home Theatre or a Studio Control Room or? For HT, HiFi probably best to buy a rig with integrated Dirac Live, which has or will have optional add on Sub management.
For Studio, I would again look to Dirac Live, which can be Software or in Minidsp hardware. Or, quite a few speaker systems have DSP on board. e.g. JBL, Genelec.....
In the last Millennium.......;-) Meyer pioneered the use of computer aided analysis and eq for their live PA systems. The designed a hardware Eq specifically to perform the corrections.
They are still around. I have my eye on one and I am very tempted to buy it.

The processor is the UMC-1, Yes I am aware most pre/pro these days do have a variety of eq built in, some are good, some not so much.

Ok, Its A Home Cinema room
The LCR speakers are passive, MTM's, Surrounds are 2 way bipole's and dipoles, (system is 5.1 at the moment, room has been wired up for 7.1, which will be later down the track)
Room size, 5mtr x 3.6mtr x 2.4mtr
Acoustic absorption is in the first reflection point on the side walls for now, more will be added as time and money permit.
The eq in the emotiva UMC-1, is ok, there are many digital adons these days which out perform the in built ones imo,
BEHRINGER has a few eq,s , Rane, used to make a THX-44 eq system (not digital)
But My goal is to Eq the speakers to the room.
the sub, also will require an eq or a parametric,

cheers

I won't speak of Behringer....;-) Rane are a good company, Ashly too, but you don't want graphics.

Hi DanDan,
Thanks for the quick reply, Can you clarify the comment, "but you don't want graphics. ",

Cheers

An add-on that will accommodate all the necessary multichannel formats at high resolution and i/o quality will be expensive. Probably better to get a better prepro with DL2.

Sure Loupy. Speaker tweaking used to be done with 1/3 Octave graphics in Studios. Typically made by White. Gradually this has been superseded by parametrics, e.g. the Meyer CP10.
Modal booms are typically very narrow, only a few Hertz, so whacking them with a full 4 semitone filter isn't appropriated.

Thank, for all your Posts, it has given me a lot to think about.

Cheers
Peter
