Using REW + UMIK1 to measure train noise

Hi,

I'm an ecologist, currently working on a project looking at the effects of rail noise on bat activity.

I'm looking for a relatively low cost way to measure and log Z-weighted SPL of passing trains (up to about 90dB), and the combination of REW and a UMIK1 seem like a good potential option. However, I'm new to acoustic measurement, so wanted to get advice as to whether this is a good idea.

Could anyone confirm that the REW and a UMIK1 would be OK to use for this purpose?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks John - that's great.

It would be really useful to know the range, sensitivity and accuracy of the SPL meter when using a UMIK 1 (we'd need to report it when publishing data). Do you know where I might be able to find these parameters?
