Unthinkable loss of junior hockey players

last night on a routine ride to a playoff game in northern Saskatchewan a bus full of 29 Humboldt junior hockey league players was hit by a fully loaded semi and 15 of the players including the coach have died.

Sad to hear. I always viewed the bus rides as a sort of ‘safe space’. Hockey gets put aside and you get to socialize with your teammates/friends. Very sad to hear this, my heart goes out to the Humboldt community.

One of my employees is a referee for the JR hockey league and he was good friends with 4 of the players killed. He was hardly able to hold back his tears.

Very sad indeed. Were they able to find a cause for the accident yet?

The investigation is continuing, Someone ran a stop sign thats all that is clear Its at an intersection of two secondary highways and one has a stop sign at it. Both vehicles were traveling at highway speed, weather was good and it was still light out (the sun does not go down until 8pm. and the accident happened at 5pm).

Thanks for the update. Looks like the accident happened at a T intersection, right? I wonder if the driver who failed to yield or stop wasn't paying attention due to cell phone use or something like that? Guess, time will tell..

Honestly I dont even care about who is at fault here. Can you imagine the guilt the truck driver must be feeling knowing he survived and so many did not. He will never be the same.

True. He will have guilt for the rest of his life regardless if he is guilty of the accident or not.. Tragedy all the way around that is for sure.

So just an update, another person has passed away today form her injuries, a 24 year old who was the teams medical therapists

Also the driver of the truck that hit the bus was only two weeks on the job and was only about 25 years old

Thanks for the update. Very sad incident. That 25 year old will have a tough time for his whole life moving forward from now.
