We have recently built a small ish soundsystem for events. Can I use REW out doors to tune the speakers for frequency and impulse reponse and program my DSP so that I have a good starting pount before taking it into venues/rooms ? thanks in advance DM

Yes.
There are many reflections inside the room, which makes it difficult to analyze. Outside the house there are no reflections, but there can be a lot of noise, which also makes analysis difficult.

Certainly can’t hurt to do what you’re thinking, but don’t be surprised if you find it wasn’t much help once you move everything indoors.
