To EQ or not to EQ, Is auto room EQ a good thing?

Yeah... it would be easy enough to compare Dirac on and off, but to compare it to Audyssey would take more time, since you have to enter into the Denon menu to turn Audyssey on and off. I did find a discrete code for DynEQ on and off, but have not seen one for Audyssey on and off. I have not checked Remote Central for any Hex codes lately, but they might have one. If there is one, then it would easy to setup up Audyssey on/off via a macro and in a press of a button swap between Audyssey and Dirac. That would be very interesting.

Either way... I am convinced Dirac is better and that I am hearing better sound, whether I can identify it or not.

Oh yeah... I'm in all the way with Dirac. Not sure why we did not think of that Wayne when we were so frustrated trying to work both into the equation.

This will at least tie me over until the XMC-1 arrives on the scene.

Just curious, are you an existing XMC-1 user waiting for an Atmos upgrade? If not, what is your current AVR? In your current implementation of Dirac on the LR speakers, are you using a two-channel external amp? Of course, one of the expensive factors of moving to a full 7.1 Dirac implementation is the requirement for external amplification.

No... but I own two XPA-1 monoblocks and an XPA Seven. They are in the boxes. I am using a Denon 4300 with a Parasound HALO A31 for now. I've got fifty-eleven amps at the house... amp poor.

Sonnie, hindsight is 50:50, with I had thought to suggest it myself. I am glad you are well on the way to a complete Dirac solution.

Did you ever conclude that all the hardware is behaving properly, that no settings are getting "lost?"

Well... I don't know. Support had me load the minidsp_loader program to check the .bin file before and after the loss of settings, but the .bin files were the same. So I went back in the room (had not moved the mic) and measured again, and low-n-behold... settings were back. I have not lost them since and I have checked on several occasions. Perhaps the loader fixed something? I just don't know.

Mystery solved... or resolved... or negated... or... whatever. As long as it works and keeps on working.

I'm late to the party with this, but i just wanted to note that the new Audyssey app has the ability to set a cutoff high frequency for where processing is applied. So if you only want to EQ below say 400Hz, it would allow that. I haven't used it myself, but am anticipating a fair bit of tweaking with it eventually.

Yes, we look forward to being able to A-B compare between Audyssey XT-32 with the new app and Dirac Live.

We may have to borrow a unit with XT-32, since I now have the Yamaha 5100 and selling the 4300.
