The Official JTR Speakers Subwoofer Discussion Thread!

After a ton of research I thought I had it narrowed down to a cap 2400ulf but cannot get a response from JTR to make a purchase. Does anyone know if they are still a player?

Any suggestions for other options? Now back to looking at PSA v3601 and others. After reading they aren't in the same class is discouraging as I want the best. Any feedback would be appreciated as I desperately need a sub upgrade and ready to purchase asap :)

Hi jdubs,

I won the JTR Cap 118HT last August in the AV NIRVANA giveaway contest, and this past Monday I placed an order for a second 118HT. Jeff replied late Monday evening and then I spoke to him on Tuesday to give him my credit card info. So he is available, but sometimes he's hard to reach. I found the best way to contact him is to send a request from his website (not sure if that always works, but it has for me when I had some questions for him).

@Jack1949 - you're holding out on us  ... do tell!!! How's your experience been with the 118HT? What are your plans with the new one?

Best, Todd

I heard from Jeff today (thx Dennis :)) and the Cap 2400ULF has been ordered!!! It should be ready early April. I'll follow up once I have it.

The wife is going to be so pleased with me

As in you may be sleeping in the theater for a while?

I’ll be pretty shocked if you don’t love the 2400ULF. most likely scenario is that it’s either more than you realized, bigger than you realized, or more likely will hook you like heroin and you will simply want 3 more.

Hi Todd,
At the time that I entered the 118HT giveaway contest, I was considering selling my SB13 and purchasing an 18" ported sub. My room is in the basement on a concrete floor and a little over 4500 cu ft. The SB13 sounded good, but I couldn't get the impact that I desired. Even though I mostly listen to music, I wanted a sub that was great for music and also had a lot of tactile impact when I do watch movies. For me, that Cap 118HT fits that bill and I'm loving it. I have an odd shaped room, so I ordered another 118HT to smooth out the bass (OK, let's face it, I want more bass). I was hoping to do this before now, but we needed to replace kitchen appliances in January and we vacationed in Mexico in February (47th wedding anniversary), so had to wait for March funds to have some play money. New sub should be delivered next Wednesday and then more fun begins.

The 118HT maybe JTR's entry model, but it is quite a beast. It's refined while playing music and roars during movies. Just what I wanted!

@jdubs75, congrats on the purchase. You're in for a treat!

Hey, Jack. I heard a couple of weeks ago that you had ordered another 118HT, that is so cool! Just that one was rocking my home nicely, my audiophile neighbor said it was the best quality bass he has ever experienced.

I don't know if you saw this thread, but here is your first sub getting ready to go.

Hi Dennis,
Yes I did see that thread after I found out I'd won and was waiting for it to arrive. As you say, this thing rocks the house by itself, so I can't wait to hear what a pair of them can do. The 118HT doesn't get as much attention as Jeff's other subs, but it shouldn't be overlooked cause it's quite impressive.

The JTR 118HT is an outstanding value.

I assume you have seen this before. This test really showed that for $1599 its among the best bang for the buck in non-DIY subs. It has significantly more output than the SVS PB13 did above 20hz and roughly equaled or slightly exceeded it below that point. It also has very low distortion. It is truly an audiophile subwoofer with pretty insane output. Enjoy, 2 will be pretty extreme.

I heard from Jeff today that the 2400ULF is ready so I’m heading up to Wisconsin tomorrow morning to pick it up! Stay tuned......

Where about are do you live! I didn't know you were local. I live in the western Chicago suburbs.

Hi Matt- South burbs, I’m in Mokena.

-Jeff

Oh yeah you are 35 minutes south west of me. I live in Bolingbrook on the border with Naperville and Plainfield.

If you are up for it I would love to see your setup once it's complete.

Sounds good. I'd love a chance to hear this beast hands on. I believe I've only heard it's little brothers in person.

Do you know any of the local Chicago HT enthusiasts from other forums? One ofy good buddies does a local HT get together every year and may have another coming up shortly. He has the most extreme bass setup I've ever heard. Four 21" subs and six 15" subs for near field effect. I can't even be in that room for more than a short demo.

From JTR Speakers:

"Fireworks will have some competition "Booming" this July. Sale pricing too low to advertise on the Captivator 118HT and Captivator 2400. The 118HT subs are ready to ship. Next batch of 2400s will be ready to ship within 2 weeks. Please email for details. Include your postal code and how many you're interested in." Sales@jtrspeakers.com

Hope someone takes advantage of the sale... I'd love to have a duo of 2400s incoming!

That is a dream of mine, too, dual 2400s. The one 118HT I had here was actually enough!

I need to pick up another one to have a pair. That would be so OoC!!!!! Just not in the budget this time of the year UGH!

I have my eyes on this puppy, the Captivator 2400XS (Extra Small).

24" tall, 18" wide, 20" deep, 15" driver with 33mm Xmax, tuned to 10hz, 2400w RMS.

@Jeff Permanian, I am a huge fan of the LF Adjust on the JTR subs, real helpful dialing in the room gain. The small size of the XS is a good call, will be able to fit in more rooms, for sure!
