Welcome to the Official JTR Speakers Subwoofer Discussion Thread! This is the place to discuss all things JTR and low frequency!

JTR currently offers NINE different subwoofer models, including ported and sealed designs. The model lineup currently consists of (pricing as of 10/2017):

Captivator 118HT ($1599), Captivator 218HT ($2399), Captivator1400 ($1999), Captivator S1 ($2199), Captivator S2 ($2999), Captivator 2400ULF ($2499), Captivator 4000ULF ($3299... $3399 as of Nov 1, 2017), Captivator 4000ULF ($3499), and Orbit Shifter LFU ($2999).

For more information, visit JTR on the web.... otherwise, join the conversation here!

Thank you AV NIRVANA for the warm welcome!

Great to have you here at AV NIRVANA, Jeff! And many thanks to JTR for delivering BIG on our first gear Giveaway! :T

If only I had room for the Orbit Shifter pair of subs.

The Captivator S1 is an extremely powerful, little subwoofer and is often over looked even though it still has a massive 18" driver and a 2400 watt, rms amplifier.

I've experienced dual Orbit Shifters and the S1, both are lust-worthy products. The OS gets most of the attention but the S1 is a formidable subwoofer in its own right.

"Orbit Shifter" gets my vote for the best speaker name ever!

Brilliant!:T

Let me tell ya, the name is apt. All of my clothes were flapping, including my coat!

Was that at JTR Dennis, or elsewhere? I'm curious to hear how big of a room and what the demo material was.

It was a GTG in Kansas City several years ago, average-sized basement theater. I do not recall the music played, but the experience is etched permanently in my mind.

Nice! If I were to pull the trigger on a couple of new subs right now, the Captivator 1400 would be my choice, too.

yes, congrats. Very nice. :)

I'm in the market for dual subs and for me it's a tossup between the PB-16's, JTR something or PSA V3601... all dual setup of course.

I may or may not have the space but I wouldn't care. I'd make it work. I could fit the Captivator 4000ULF-LP's and a pair of those in a 3,000cuft room would be on the "slight" overkill side.

Nothing against those others brands but there are only two brands I would ever buy as a complete sub. AND JTR would be at the top of the list. Just buy the Cap or in my case I would by the pair of OS's.:D

From my research prior to buying - I don't think SVS and PSA are fighting in the same weight class as JTR.

After a ton of research I thought I had it narrowed down to a cap 2400ulf but cannot get a response from JTR to make a purchase. Does anyone know if they are still a player?

Any suggestions for other options? Now back to looking at PSA v3601 and others. After reading they aren't in the same class is discouraging as I want the best. Any feedback would be appreciated as I desperately need a sub upgrade and ready to purchase asap :)

JTR is alive and well. I know Jeff is a super busy guy. I'll send him a message for you.

Definitely, don't give up on JTR. Dennis can get his attention for you.

What kind of space are you looking to fill with the 2400ulf?

Well after I tell you the size you'll say I need 4 Cap 4000s!

My space is roughly 2,560cu ft (20x16x8) with 2 walls opening to an additional 25,950 cu ft. Total basement area including theater is approx 28,500 total cu ft. (66x54x8). I've attached a couple pics that show the openings.

First off, @jdubs75, that is a beautiful space! Looks well thought out (judging from paint color on walls/ceiling. You need to create a showcase page (click here and click create showcase in upper right corner: https://www.avnirvana.com/showcase/)! ;-) I'm sure others would enjoy looking at it!

Secondly, you definitely have a massive space to fill. The right sub will give you some good near field impact and output... I think you're barking up the right tree by looking at JTR. Perhaps Seaton Sound would be another good potential brand. Of course, that V3601 (PSA) is also a beast.

Thank you Todd. After about a year of working evenings and weekends it's just about finished with it. Few small things to wrap up. Not a dedicated sealed room but still a great picture and sure sounds good. I'll get a showcase page created. I just checked out your showcase so had to share this pic.

I'm hopeful I'll hear from JTR soon as that's the direction I would prefer to go based on everything I've researched over the past 6-months. Stay tuned.......

As Todd already noted, you are looking at the right brands. You may find that your proximity to these subs is sufficient to get a lot of visceral impact from the bass. If not, I will bet it has more to do with the floor/subfloor construction than a lack of room pressurization. The reality is that standard drywall construction provides little acoustical blockage of LF sound, which means very little is being reflected or contained in the space. While your space IS more open than most, at very low frequencies it really is not so bad.

Both Jeff and Mark are great and knowledgeable guys, I highly recommend either company. For a given single subwoofer, I believe the JTR's will generally be the loudest. The sealed nature of the Seaton sound subs will make them louder to lower frequencies and are great for getting down into the single digits if that's your thing.

Your room looks beautiful, great job!
