The Official 2017 MLB Thread

Three in a row against a solid Rockies team for the Royals. Calling them streaky is an understatement for sure. Just a half game back of the Twins now for the Wild Card. It might just come down to the wire.

I'll probably tune back in next month when it all starts to come together.

One thing I really hate about baseball is the number of games they play. I have no idea what the rationale is but I doubt I would understand the logic. My guess would be the almighty dollar and the vacancy (lack of fans filling seats) of stadiums for the majority of the season.

That's what a lot of baseball fans like is there's a game on virtually every night during the summer months. The enjoyment of the journey makes the payoff all the sweeter.

You do bring up a good subject.. Number of games..

Baseball has too many that is for sure.

MLB teams play a 162-game regular season over a span of six months.

Below is not including playoffs.

NFL teams play 16 games over a span of 17 weeks.

The NHL and the NBA employs an 82-game regular season

Well, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree about the number of games being too many. I love being able to catch a game at The K whenever I want throughout the summer. Baseball and summer are America like Apple pie and puppies.

I do agree with you that if you want to catch a game during the summer, it is available. :)

What is that saying?? Went to a baseball game and saw a boxing match???

from espn,

"Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has been suspended seven games for inciting the first benches-clearing incident and fighting during Thursday's game against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park, MLB announced Friday.

Yankees All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez received a four-game suspension for fighting, including throwing punches. Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson also was suspended four games for intentionally throwing a pitch at Todd Frazier while warnings were in place for both sides.

Yankees catcher Austin Romine received a two-game suspension for fighting, including throwing punches."

I agree. The baseball season's length is a thing of beauty. Traditions, statistics...everything is centered around the season's length. Not to mention the fact that you basically watch your team play any given day. These players grind hard all season... and it's a joy to watch it unfold.

Speaking of unfolding... HUGE game for Baltimore today at Fenway. We have tickets to see them take on Seattle early this coming week. And then the O's have a boatload of key games against the Yankees. This race is tightening up and a separation is bound to happen. Just hope Baltimore can be on winning side of things!

Somehow, someway... O's swept Boston at Fenway. They keep grinding.

Baltimore's offense has scored more runs than any MLB team since the break... the team just desperately need consistent starting pitching. And – unfortunately – Zach Britton is injured again. IMO, the entire balance of the season will hang on how much the O's can get out of the starters over the next month. Huge divisional games against Boston, NY, and Tampa are on the docket.

Fingers crossed and popcorn ready

Due to the flooding in Houston, from espn,
"The Astros will play their upcoming home series against the Rangers at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida"

Moving to the Trop? That's an odd place to send them. Seems like there should have been something closer to home.

We hit the Yards last night and watched Dylan Bundy toss a 1-hit CG SHO with 12 strike outs (all swinging). One of the more impressive pitching performances I've ever seen in person.

This has been a crazy season. Not long ago the O's were left for dead and now we're chasing you for a WC spot.

Something tells me this roller coaster season isn't over in the AL. A matter of 5 games can swing this thing in bunch of different directions.

Justin Verlander is an Astro

from chron,

"Thursday's last-minute blockbuster that netted ace righthander Justin Verlander from the Tigers for three prospects - pitcher Franklin Perez, outfielder Daz Cameron and catcher Jake Rogers - was reminiscent of the 1998 deal that brought Hall of Fame lefthander Randy Johnson to Houston."

I agree Todd but my gut tells me it might be over for us. Houston got much stronger with the addition of Verlander. Might be too many teams for us to jump over for that wildcard spot now. I think the Indians might have Houston a little worried. The Indians are my pick for the AL but we'll see?

Indians are looking tough.

We have the NNY at Camden today. 2pm. I am THERE! Starting pitching for Balt. is still suspect... but, they are rallying to some degree.

O's picked a terrible day to have a lapse in pitching... 10 walks. Ugh.

Beautiful day to be at a ballgame tho!

Very nice seats! :)

New guys Verlander, Maybin lift Astros over Mariners 3-1

Wonder if there is an app available?. lol..

from engadget,

"The Cardinals aren't the only Major League Baseball team accused of using technological cheats. According to the New York Times, the league has determined that the Boston Red Sox cheated in numerous games against the New York Yankees (who filed a complaint) and other teams by using the Apple Watch to relay the hand signals that catchers and pitchers use to communicate intended pitches. Investigators learned that Red Sox trainers received signals from video replay staff and used the smartwatch to quietly relay that info to the team.

It's legal to watch hand signals and send that info to the team. However, teams aren't allowed to use equipment to speed up this process -- the watch was an illegal shortcut."

Manny Machado is now in full effect. His August stats were off the charts... he hasn't slowed down in Sept.

Fingers crossed: O's need to make this guy an Oriole for a good long while.
