Please help w/equalizer hook up to AV receiver...

I,ve been all over youtube and seen many diagrams and still cannot get phono to work with my BSR equalizer and Sony STR DE 885 reciever...!
Phono in ,
tape in/out from reciever to
tape out in at equalizer...
reciever switched to tape I and I get nothing...sound thru phono but no EQ...!
What am I doing wrong..? I would pay nearly anything at this point

Unless the receiver has a button labeled “Tape Monitor,” you won’t be able to use the equalizer as it was originally intended. The only way to use outboard equalizers these days is between the source component, or between the receiver and an outboard amplifier.

Modern day receivers do not have the ability to do as you are requesting, Wayne is correct. The only way to eq the sound is to record the output of the turntable through the receiver on a PC apply eq using software and saving that file for playback.
