noisy neighbor - recording his noise pollution

hi everyone, i live in a poorly built apartment complex in a nice area (marina), and i have a neighbor who insists to use his chair to make noise pollution well into the night. Sudden jolts of wood rubbing the rough tiles. I need to record several instances of his noise pollution on the other side of the wall.

i bought the U-Mik specifically for this purpose, and i just got started with the REW software, and the first thing it told me is that i don't have a calibration file. what should i do about that?

REW is a measurement platform. You need a program for recording, such as Audacity.

SPL Measurements, even with a spectrum, do no convey the nuisance aspect of noise as well as an audio recording.
I deal with many cases like this. By all means record the audio and have it ready. Edit it to feature the most objectionable bits, burn it to CD or have it on a USB Stick.
More immediately I would start introducing sessions of loud noise. An hour of music after dinner. Power tools. Legitimate domestic noise but loud and near the party wall.
This is not revenge or vindictive. It will let them know that the wall is inadequate and that nuisance levels of noise can result from just normal domestic behaviour.
Hopefully this realisation will sensitise the neighbour. If not you will have to present the recording. I would include a clearly spoken intro at the same record level as the chair tapes. This gives very real human context, calibration as to relative loudness and intrusiveness.
