(June 13, 2024) McIntosh Labs has launched the MB25 Bluetooth Transceiver, a reboot of its older MB20 model. Designed to seamlessly integrate Bluetooth streaming capabilities into virtually any high-end home audio system, the MB25 ensures that audio enthusiasts can enjoy their favorite music collections with premium sound.
The MB25 is a compact, standalone unit compatible with Bluetooth streaming devices and physical media sources such as CD players and turntables, giving it great versatility. With no need for third-party apps, it employs Class 1 Bluetooth technology for transmission across distances up to 150 feet (45.7 meters) while leveraging Bluetooth 5.0 to support high-fidelity codecs such as Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) and Qualcomm aptX HD. It also houses a high-performance 32-bit DAC for receiver mode and a premium Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for transmitter mode, maintaining excellent sound quality and signal integrity.
Building on the older MB20, the MB25 introduces several notable enhancements. An illuminated front glass panel provides real-time insights into audio signal rates and connection types, and owners can select the desired input in transmit mode, offering greater control over the audio experience. Additionally, a Power Control feature allows the MB25 to be easily turned on and off with the rest of a McIntosh audio system.
The MB25 carries an array of inputs and outputs to support diverse system configurations. This includes analog options such as balanced and unbalanced stereo connections, as well as digital connections through coaxial and optical inputs and outputs for use with an outboard Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC).
Because it's a transceiver, the MB25 can function as a Bluetooth receiver or transmitter. This allows users to stream audio from compatible Bluetooth devices to the MB25 or stream music from physical media sources to Bluetooth-enabled headphones or speakers. For multi-system integration within the home, the MB25 offers a convenient solution for wireless audio distribution between systems. In fact, the MB25 can be used in conjunction with an MB20 to achieve a multi-room, multi-system configuration.
Encased in a sleek, custom aluminum chassis with a black glass front panel featuring an illuminated logo, the MB25 exudes physical sophistication. McIntosh says availability will begin in July through authorized McIntosh dealers. It will cost $100 more than the older MB20, launching with an MSRP of $600.
