(October 3, 2017) JTR Speakers has officially welcomed a new subwoofer model to its family of highly respected subsonic machines. The new Captivator 4000ULF-lp ($3499; $3149 pre-order) introduces a new design twist to the company’s legendary and hard-hitting Captivator 4000ULF sub.

ULF stands for “Ultra Low Frequency,” which is exactly where both the Captivator 4000ULF and 4000ULF-lp are more than capable of operating. Much like the original design, the 4000ULF-lp features a cabinet tuned to 10Hz. Relying on the same 18” drivers (33 xmax each way, +4” peak to peak) and built-in 4000-Watt RMS DSP optimized Class D amp, JTR has moved the drivers and slot ports to the wide side of the cabinet, allowing the sub to be built into baffle walls and false walls.

The addition of “lp” in the model number signifies “low profile.”

Otherwise, JTR’s Jeff Permanian says the two models perform exactly the same. That is to say, they are capable of nail popping and foundation shifting performance.

“The Captivator 4000ULF is among the most powerful subwoofers ever tested by Data-Bass,” explains Permanian. “In fact, it’s the loudest ever tested at 10hz.”

Indeed, Data-Bass has yet to test a sub capable of outperforming the 4000ULF design at 10 Hz, leading the site to remark that the design is “one of the most powerful subs that has come across [our] test bench and should be an excellent option for those on the market for an uber sub or two for a large dedicated space.”

Weighing a backbreaking 265-pounds and standing over three feet tall (41″ H x 39.5″ W x 20.5" D), the Captivator 4000ULF-lp is a gorgeous heavy hitter. Much like other JTR designs, it features an 18mm, 13 ply, void free Baltic Birch cabinet, complete with extensive internal bracing and a magnetically attached grille. The cabinet is offered in a standard matte black finish, however premium custom finishes are available upon request.

AV NIRVANA recently launched two new Official JTR Speakers threads (one for the company’s speakers, the other for subwoofers), and we invite both owners and fans of the brand to join the conversation!

Quite impressive to say the least.

yes, I agree. Very impressive. :)

Someday I'd like to have a theater room big enough to accommodate a few of these bad boys! WOW

You and I both... would love to experience these in a theater room belonging to me.

You should buy a couple... send them here first. I'll break them in for you. And if my house hasn't collapsed, I'll box them up and ship them down your way!

And I though Electrodymanic's 24" behemoth was leading the pack all this time! That must be something to experience. We need a showdown between the two of them! I can imagine what a pair of the 24" drivers in a single enclosure would be capable of! Those JTR's must be something special. If I remember correctly, Data Bass did test the 24's. So they know what they are capable of. Electrodynamic is going to have to step up his game!

Can I borrow some money that I don't have to pay back?

Sure, Sonnie! I really like that F150 you have, and am sure we can come to an amicable, equitable agreement.

Well... we have a slight problem. I had to sell my truck because I could no longer afford it.

Just over a week left on the introductory sale of $3149
