(August 5, 2021) JBL hit this year’s ProSource Summer Conference with two new product announcements in hand. Both are scheduled to hit the market in Q4 2021, just in time for the holidays.

First up is an all-new lifestyle speaker called the L75ms Music System. With a walnut wood veneer cabinet, black Quadrax foam grille, and a top-mounted aluminum control panel, the L75ms has an eye-catching retro appeal inspired by the JBL Classic Series. Its driver array utilizes dual 1-inch titanium dome tweeters with waveguides, two 5.25-inch white cone woofers matched with front-firing ports, and a center-mounted 4” midrange driver. Each of the five drivers has a dedicated channel of amplification and DSP tuning for a wide soundstage across a large listening area, while a 32-bit/192kHz hi-res DAC promises a refined conversion process and crystal clear sound.

Connectivity-wise, L75ms carries a 3.5mm analog jack, an HDMI Audio Return Channel input, and a Moving Magnet phono stage. Ethernet, Google Chomecast Built-in, Apple AirPlay 2, and Bluetooth round out wired and wireless network audio capabilities.

JBL’s other new reveal is the L52 Classic Bookshelf Loudspeaker. Designed as a scaled-down version of the company’s L82 Classic, the L52 features a 0.75-inch titanium dome tweeter mated to an acoustic lens waveguide and a 5.25-inch white cone, cast-frame woofer. Low-end capabilities are bolstered by a front-firing port, with overall sound output tuned by an adjustable HF level attenuator.

The L52’s cabinet is finished in a wood veneer, and is sized perfectly for stands, tabletops, shelves, or even mounted to a wall (third-party wall mount brackets required).

The L75ms Music System will ship with a retail price of $1,500, while the L52 Classic will carry a tag of $1,000 per pair.

I think so too. I’m curious to know how they’ll age. A few years down the road, will this retro look lose its luster?

You need to find a photo of the L75ms... Very different... Almost like a center channel speaker...

An aside... When I was 16 and in a garage band my dad asked me to find him and mom a stereo... Remember, I am a dinosaur... So I picked out a set of orange, my mom liked orange, JBL 3 way speakers much like the one pictured above, and a Sony Intergrated (Tuner, Pre and Amp)... Sounded pretty great and was less that 1k$ for the kit back then... I remember pushing the living room furniture around to find the sweet spot... Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison never sounded so good...

Thanks for mentioning that... I had photos uploaded and completely biffed on adding them! They're there now ;-)

Cool story, btw. I'm sure JBL is partially looking to hook original buyers like yourself!

This statement carries some real accuracy. Similar to buying that lime green Challenger SRT. Wow, looks awesome today but a year or two from now? A buddy had similar JBL's in '79 & '80 and were punchy as heck and I liked them a lot. Don't know where he is today or those speakers.

Lime green Challenger... yikes!
That would definitely be a hard pass for me ;-)

Yea, I did pass on that Challenger... Got me a 1994 Mazda RX7 FD... Chaste white... Yes, I am the original owner... Still beats most things on a road course... Just a few performance and reliability mods...

I think those Orange JBL L-100's went in a yard sale back in the mid 80s...

KENRICK SOUND CO.,LTD. does restorations on these old JBL classics... Some go for the big $$$s...

It’s a smart play on JBL’s part. They’re buying audience is younger retro seekers and those of us that have a nostalgia for the good old days… but they also have most of the design work finished. Just a little refresh is needed.

There’s something about that color Orange that sucks me right back to the early 1980s… Sony Walkman headsets, Donkey Kong, Roller Rinks, and silly speaker sized multi-color light boxes!
