Hi I'm a newbie to using REW. I'm using a laptop with Windows 11, hdmi out to my denon receiver, and the umik 1 mic.
Couple questions that I have:
1. what is the difference between Java and ASIO drivers? Almost everything I read tells me to use ASIO. With Java set as my driver, I'm able to access all 7 channels. Do I still need to use ASIO?
2. Do I need to calibrate my laptop sound card. Some conflicting information on the forums.
3. Can I use REW as a SPL to check my speakers after running Audyssey?

Any help is greatly appreciated as this is someone overwhelming as first time user. thanks

Many guides were produced before multichannel support was added to the Java driver. If the Java driver works for you, there's no reason to mess with ASIO. You should calibrate your interface if you're not using a USB mic. You can use REW after running Audyssey.

thank you for your reply, greatly appreciate it.

Makes sense now, I have the Java driver set in REW and laptop connected via hdmi to receiver. So no need to calibrate soundcard. Thanks!
