Whew Sonnie, I am so glad you brought that up. I used in this case LED lights to try to brighten the image but black lights would definitely enhance the listening experience. I am dying to find out which instruments would benefit...probably some recordings from the 60's. I will give it a go tonight, I am most certainly in your debt and I will report once I come down.

Curious, you have your HSU plugged to be sealed, yes? What's the driving factor behind that? I'm a sealed sub fan (myself)... just curious how you arrived at using both plugs?

Great question, I have over the last 10 years or so, been a fan of sealed subs or subs with a passive radiator, they seem to be tighter with less bloom and port chuffing. I found that imo sealed subs worked better with music that ported subs and since a good 50% of my time in the room used to be spent listening to music, it made sense to stay that way with the HSU. That is until I started experimenting with the various settings on the back of the sub as well as actually following directions in way of using the port plugs. The photo of the sub above was at the time of initial set up and placement and has since been changed. I now have the larger or left port open and the smaller port on the right sealed with the supplied semi soft plug.

Did I mention that these plugs fit very tight ? It took me a good while to remove them for testing as the front and back of the plugs are larger than the port tube while the mid section of the plugs are a bit concave so that they pop into place and even with the great amount of pressure behind them in the cabinet, they will not pop out.

Anyway, my room is not huge, 15' x 20' and based on my initial findings I do not need the slight increase in SPL's that would theoretically occur with two open ports. I have not fully experimented over a longer period of time with two open ports but will update when I do, but i think I heard the slightest amount of boominess with both open. As such I think I need a second sub of similar size to be placed in another part of the room to allow me to even out the higher sounds that come from the sub. As sounds get closer to the 80hz cutoff, I believe I can hear where the sub is, directionality if you will and it bothers me.

So long story short, I like the greater extension in the lowest bass with this sub when at least one port is open. It just does not sound like ported subs of my past. Does this make sense at all ?

Thank You so much Lou, you made me blush. With the new pre/pro from Integra, it does sound a bit better, more dynamic actually. I think you will like it....or....the tube amp can really make some of the sonics almost holographic in nature, it is a cool experience and no adult options need be ingested to hear it.

Yes Todd, I actually dropped the crossover to 40hz and things have improved a great deal. I also moved the sub more into the left front corner with the woofer facing our at an angle from the corner into the room. It works very well for movies but maybe not as great for music, I am going to do some experiments today.

I wish I could do that but the DQ10's are very inefficient and the tube amp is only 30wpc so it is not the best match up for those speakers. However, having said that, at low to moderate sound pressure levels, it is very very nice.

I like that Camp Fone as well, its been sitting a long time so it is a bit dirty but it really works. Its from the early 1930's I believe and one of the records had patent dates in the early early 1900's. See below. Not the best sounding but hey, at least there was something to listen to in the good old days.
