Hello,

I am new to EQ and I just received my Daytonaudio UMM-6 today. Once I downloaded the latest REW software and calibration file I plugged in my microphone and applied the correct I/O settings along with the calibration file. I am very puzzled as to why my microphone does not seem to work no matter what I did.

I allowed access for my mic in my windows privacy settings, checked to see that it was the only input device, double-checked the input settings in REW preferences as well as that it was plugged in and the blue light is lit at the top indicating it is in fact getting power.

It seemed odd that my UMM-6 shows up as OmniMic on both of my Windows and Mac computers. I did not see a UMM-6 driver to download anywhere on google.

Can this be a dead measurement mic? or am I missing something here? Please help, this is my first time using such tools.

Welcome to AV NIRVANA ... so the mic does not work in windows?

Couple of different ways to test it on your computer to determine if the mic is okay.

Just saw this thread. Coincidentally, I ordered a UMM-6 this week and when it arrived, it was dead out of the box. Plugging it in, the blue LED lit up and it was recognized by the OS (and REW) but I can't get any signal from it at all. There is an increased signal level, which seems to fluctuate when I put audio into the mic, but it's only slightly above the ambient noise and all at very low frequencies.

When I swap to my UMIK-1, everything works great. I tried 3 different computers and cable sets. I fear that P-E got a bad batch of UMM-6 mics. Mine is going back for a refund tomorrow.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your reply. It was in fact just a dead mic. I exchanged it for a new one from parts-express and the new one works as expected.

cheers,

I wanted to report back as well: P-E replaced my defective mic without even questioning. The new one appears to be fine, and I'm going to test it against my UMIK-1 today. Their customer service is definitely above the norm.

I am new and don’t know anything yet. But I have an mmc-6 mic with xlr. I just discovered I need to have phantom power, 15v to 48v, to run the mic. Do you have the usb or the xlr version?

Well done!

do you know if the XLR EMM-6 will work if I get an XLR to USB cable with phantom power 48v?

/B09Y5GM2B5 cannot post links yet, but you should find it on Amazon with that

I cannot return the microphone, so now wondering if I should try this cable, or get another microphone

thanks

otto

There is a bit more than 48V involved. USB is a Digital stream, so you need something to supply the phantom power to the mic, AND convert it's analogue output to USB/Digital Stream. A single or two channel Audio Interface, from the world of music, is what you need. As a sweetener, some of these probably have stellar headphone outputs.... https://higherhz.com/best-budget-audio-interfaces/

DanDan should I give up and get a usb mic instead? I mean it is not clear to me what would be better, but it seems like adding devices and cables would induce more issues.
