First Time Ever: KORG, Artist Connection, and Auro-3D Synergize to Stream Uncompressed Immersive Audio and Full HD Video!

full?d=1708551052.png

(February 21, 2024) KORG and a supporting cast of key technologies are poised to host a first-of-its-kind demonstration where a transcontinental concert experience is streamed from Japan to LA. The thought of sharing audio and video from one side of the world to the other is hardly revolutionary, but doing so with a stream comprising uncompressed immersive audio and full 1080p video is quite the feat. And to sweeten the pot, KORG is allowing members of the public to participate – read on for details!

Organized by KORG with support from media company and TV broadcaster WOWOW, distributor Syntax Japan, and Genelec Japan, the concert will take place at the Hall of Halls, Kiyosato Moeginomura Museum in Yamanashi, Japan. The performance, “The Sound of the Previous Century Into the Future," will last one hour. It will feature a marimba performance by Tatsushi Omori and Yoko Kamihara, performed with and accompanied by early 20th century instruments such as the world's last remaining Chickering Ampico Grand Player Piano and a “Limonaire 1900” organ used at the Paris World Exposition in 1900.

The concert will be streamed to a demo room in Los Angeles, where press and key partners will be gathered. The event will start at 6 PM Pacific Time on February 28, 2024.

The demonstration centers around KORG’s Live Extreme, an encoding technology that eliminates the need for compression and workarounds to deliver a bit-for-bit experience of any audio/video source. Live Extreme will use AURO-3D’s Auro-Codec real-time encoder to stream multi-channel 24bit/96kHz AURO-3D immersive audio and a high-definition H.264 1080p 15 Mbps video stream.

“Technological limitations have thwarted the ability to stream immersive audio and high-res video in one stream," explains AURO-3D CEO Rudy Van Duppen. "Now, thanks to our partnerships with like-minded technological innovators Artist Connection and KORG Live Extreme, we can stream, in real-time, true H.264 1080p video married to uncompromised, lossless 24bit/96kHz AURO-3D immersive audio over the same public internet that the other music distribution services use to deliver lesser quality streams. We can't wait to see the reaction from press and partners when they hear and see this steam live.”

The concert will be streamed free to the public on the Artist Connection platform, which is the only streaming platform that delivers premium streams that marry immersive audio and high-res video. Artist Connection has native support for both the KORG Live Extreme Encoder and a built-in AURO-3D decoder.

Compatible Playback devices include:
  • Auro-3D compatible AV Receivers via HDMI
  • Microsoft Windows 10 or later (supported browser: Chrome)
  • Apple MacOS 11 or later (supported browsers: Safari and Chrome)
  • Nvidia Shield TV and Shield TV Pro (player application: Artist Connection)

Headphone Playback
  • Apple iPhone/iPad (player application: Artist Connection)
  • Google Android (player application: Artist Connection)

If you have one of the capabilities listed above and would like to participate, KORG is opening public access to the first 100 registered viewers. To watch the event live, users should visit https://live-extreme.net/hall-of-halls-us.

Hmmm... don't think I can get it with my Fire Cube, although I bet it will be pretty cool.

Thanks for the heads up Todd!

Reply email said I was accepted. :T

I’ve been waiting a long time for a better quality alternative to Kaleidescape, maybe this is the beginning of something.

I believe you source it through a PC that dumps it into your storm processor... not entirely sure about that, but I believe that's the case.

Could be. I'll be right there with you while it streams. We'll have to compare notes on this thread during!

I think my laptop would have to be Auro 3D capable and then I could feed it to my Storm via HDMI. I have an HDMI run so that I can do REW sweeps. I guess I can try it and see if it works.

Oh wait... I have a Shield TV Pro down at the cabin. I can borrow it if I need to. I also see it's compatible with Apple TV, and I have an Apple 4K that I could connect if necessary.

Doesn't look like it is really for movies at this point... mainly music and concerts, etc.

I'm accepted.

This particular technology is primarily for live events. But, @JStewart , Auro-CX is what you’ll want to keep your eye on, because that should deliver the audio quality you want when watching a film.

But I want it all, all the time! Video and audio!!
Anyway, I’ve never listened to Auro native content, so I’m really looking forward to this.

If you have speakers set up in a way to accommodate Auro, it's worth buying their demo disc. There are several different scenes that are simply spectacular... it sounds more real than any other take on spatial audio!

I'm not sure if you have to register to see it, but it's on their website. I'm also not sure if this demo they are doing may be limited to the formats they listed for the demo.

I would think that if it works on firetv it would work on the Fire Cube.

Interesting they don’t list all those platforms on the emailed link.

I plan to try the test file on the same page this weekend. AppleTV would be marginally more convenient for me than running HDMI from the laptop to the processor.

So, it's not looking like Apple has an app for the Apple TV 4K... so, only ways to connect are as detailed in the article

I believe I followed the Win10 setup instructions properly.
The processor shows the 96k PCM input signal. It doesn’t show bit depth but doesn’t for anything, iirc.
Issue is the test signal is playing the height channel signals on the fronts and surrounds.
Might anyone have a suggestion?

I still haven't had a chance to test it yet. That is quite strange... hopefully, they will get it resolved if it is an issue on their end.

Issue is the test signal is playing the height channel signals on the fronts and surrounds.
Might anyone have a suggestion?
On the PC I chose 96 kHz 24-bit and on the AVR I chose native Auro 3D. The test plays through all the speakers (9.1)

Thanks. I had done that too.
Tonight I noted Auro 3D engaged a couple of times. It was like the processor couldn’t maintain a lock on that format. I’m using a fiber hdmi with some electronic widgets for source and display on each end. I’ll try a regular certified 4K copper wire HDMI tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Mine does not test correctly either with HDMI from my laptop to the processor. My laptop is set to Dolby Atmos and that is what registers on the StormAudio. If I change the laptop to 96kHz-24bit... it shows the following:

However, surround speakers are rear speakers, not side surrounds, and overhead speakers come from the front and surrounds. Setting the StormAudio to Auro-matic does not affect anything. Looks like I'll need to hook up the Shield TV if I want it to work.

Thanks @Sonnie . This is exactly the behavior I observed.
I surfed around for a tech help contact and didn’t spot one.
I still plan to give it a go tomorrow and see what happens.
