(January 11, 2024) 75 years is nothing to shrug at, and McIntosh is celebrating with style by announcing the release of its new MC2.1KW Monoblock Power Amplifier.
The MC2.1KW is an updated version of the MC2KW, bolstered by multiple technical advancements. Its core maintains a unique tri-chassis design, with one chassis dedicated to the company's proprietary bi-filar Autoformer and two separate chassis, each housing 1000-watt amplifiers. This structure allows the amp to efficiently produce a total of 2000 Watts of power, accommodating speaker impedances of 2, 4, or 8 Ohms.
McIntosh says the MC2.1KW notably improves low-end frequency response and dynamic headroom by incorporating larger filter capacitors. The model also features McIntosh's Monogrammed Heatsinks, which are critical for efficient heat dissipation and maintaining consistent audio performance. Other enhancements include patented Solid Cinch speaker binding posts, separate output platforms for each impedance rating, and the capability for bi- or tri-wiring of loudspeakers. The MC2.1KW also offers dual sets of balanced and unbalanced inputs, which adds flexibility in connecting multiple preamplifiers and switching between vacuum tube and solid-state signals.
Technological advancements extend to enhanced circuit designs with modern components, updated electrical wiring, bayonet IP68-rated interconnect cables between each module, and direct LED front panel lighting. McIntosh's exclusive features like Power Guard, Sentry Monitor, Quad Balanced Design, and Power Control are also incorporated.
In terms of design, the MC2.1KW adheres to McIntosh’s classic aesthetic with a stainless steel chassis, black glass front panels, and a large blue Watt meter. Of course, we can't forget that lovely, green-glowing badge that oozes McIntosh's image. That's included too!
To mark the 75th anniversary, the first 75 pairs of the MC2.1KW sold will include special anniversary badging. McIntosh says that four other existing models, MC1.25KW Amplifier, C12000 Preamplifier, MA12000 Integrated Amplifier, and MCD12000 SACD/CD Player, will also be available throughout the year with optional anniversary badging. Note, the anniversary version of the C12000 will be limited to just 75 units per country.
Priced at $50,000 USD, the MC2.1KW will be available through authorized McIntosh dealers starting in February 2024. For an exclusive demonstration, visit the House of Sound in New York City or the McIntosh factory in Binghamton, NY.
