(September 13, 2024) JVC rolled into CEDIA with a trick up its sleeve: two new NZ projectors. Having already refreshed its top two models, the new NZ700 and NZ500 fill out the rest of JVC's 2024 offerings. The company's former entry-level projector, the bulb-based NP5, is now discontinued and replaced by the laser-equipped NZ500.

We caught up with industry veteran and friend of AV NIRVANA, Rob Budde, to discuss all four new JVC models.

Another great interview, Todd. Hard to believe the lasers have come down in price as much as they have. I also appreciate the smaller package.

It seems like TVs and projectors are getting to where you really don't that all that much improvement with pro calibrations. The average person probably would never miss it (like me).

Thx Sonnie, it is amazing how far laser has come. As a user, it’s a way better experience… quick power ups and power downs, less heat, you don’t lose large chunks of lumens as it ages, and it will run about 20,000 hours.

JVC does a great job with laser too… their last firmware update added some nice tweaks to dimming.

Like Rob said, out of the box it’s very close to where you want it to be… and I agree. And JVC’s frame adapt feature really eliminates the need for outboard processing. Great stuff, and exactly why you see Epson and Sony releasing projectors with similar processing features. I’m amazed it took them this long to catch up!
