CAF 2018: GT Audio Works Adds a New Wideband Driver to Its GTA3R Speaker
(GT Audio Works)(October 30, 2018) Year in and year out, one of my favorite demo rooms at Capital Audiofest (CAF) has been inhabited by Greg Takesh and his handcrafted creations that carry the name “GT Audio Works.” Last year, Takesh arrived in Rockville, MD with his new GTA3R planar speaker paired with Sound Insight’s SI 600 open baffle sub. To put it simply, the system’s sound was stunning to these ears, leading me to highlight the room in AV NIRVANA's CAF 2017 Show Report.
This year (this week, in fact), GT Audio Works is returning to the Frederick Room at CAF with an all-new planar driver installed in last year’s GTA3R speaker. And according to Takesh, the new driver doesn’t disappoint.
Utilizing a “one of a kind wideband driver,” Takesh says the GT3AR carries a proprietary membrane material that significantly reduces resonances common among stretched diaphragm type speakers. And its no crossover, direct to amp, design only furthers enhances overall resolution and efficiency.
The GT3AR is a made to order speaker that’s designed and built in-house without the use of any OEM drivers. Buyers can request specific wood and finish options (including Cyber Metallic Grey, pictured at a dealer location in Long Island, NY).
Much like last year, GT Audio Works’ CAF demo room will feature open baffle subs manufactured by Sound Insight. Sound Insight’s subs are also available in a variety of colors and can be configured with a varying number of 12” drivers. According to Takesh, these subs (and the GTA3Rs) share a similar dipole radiating pattern, making for seamless sound integration.
Pricing ranges from $15,000 to $19,000 for the GTA3R speakers (per pair) and $6,000 to $12,000 for the subs (per pair), depending on size and options.
GT Audio Works will demo their system all three days at CAF, punctuated by nightly listening parties with refreshments. For more information about CAF, read our CAF 2018 news announcement (here).
