Ascendo’s Panoramic Surface On-Wall Speaker is Primed to Steal the Show at CEDIA 2026

(August 24, 2026) If you’ve followed Ascendo Immersive Audio at CEDIA Expo over the past few years, you already know this isn’t a company that plays it safe or sticks to familiar ideas. Take 2024, when Ascendo introduced THE28 SUB SQUARED, a passive subwoofer built like nothing we’d seen before. In 2025, the company arrived with HALO, a cardioid loudspeaker design that, quite frankly, nobody, and I mean nobody, saw coming. And now, for CEDIA Expo 2026, Ascendo is once again taking convention, turning it upside down, and delivering something that will likely melt the industry’s collective home theater brain.

The new speaker is called Panoramic Surface On-Wall, and it’s scheduled to make its debut in Sound Room 10 next week. Built around Ascendo’s proprietary full-range composite radiating surface technology, it’s purposefully designed to deliver an exceptionally broad and continuous sound field. In simple terms, Ascendo is attacking the way sound radiates into a room, especially at higher frequencies where conventional drivers naturally begin to narrow and reveal their physical location.

That makes Panoramic Surface especially interesting for surround and height channels, where the goal isn’t to hear a speaker on a wall or ceiling doing its job. The goal is to create an acoustic environment that feels continuous, believable, and detached from any obvious loudspeaker location.

Ascendo says Panoramic Surface addresses that problem by behaving less like a conventional high-frequency driver and more like a controlled acoustic surface. The claimed result is an exceptionally wide radiation characteristic that extends nearly 180 degrees into the highest of frequencies, up to 20 kHz. That kind of coverage is meant to improve tonal consistency across multiple seats, reduce audible differences between on-axis and off-axis positions, and help surround effects feel less tied to the exact location of each speaker.

There’s another wrinkle that makes this especially interesting for real-world theater design. Because Panoramic Surface distributes output across a radiating surface, a listener sitting close to a surround or height speaker shouldn’t experience the same sharp rise in perceived loudness that can happen with a more traditional point-source design. That gives integrators more flexibility when seating has to live near side walls, rear walls, or individual overhead channels.

The design also addresses a third problem: how on-wall and on-ceiling speakers interact with surrounding architectural surfaces. Conventional angled or off-surface-mounted loudspeakers can create front-boundary interference, introducing reflection paths and comb-filtering artifacts that complicate performance. Panoramic Surface is designed to work in close proximity to the wall or ceiling itself, allowing it to integrate more naturally with the room’s architecture while maintaining broad high-frequency coverage.

“Panoramic Surface follows a principle that has always driven Ascendo: We don’t take an existing loudspeaker concept and force it into an application it was never designed to serve,” says Geoffrey Heinzel, Co-Managing Partner of Ascendo. “We start with what the acoustic environment actually requires and engineer the solution around those demands.”

That quote gets to the heart of why this speaker is so intriguing. Ascendo isn’t simply chasing louder, bigger, or flashier. It’s trying to solve several real-world challenges at once, including localization, seating consistency, boundary effects, visual impact, and the compromises integrators face when designing luxury theaters around actual rooms. Other companies have tackled pieces of that puzzle with angled cabinets, opposed drivers, wide-dispersion waveguides, and other clever designs. But Panoramic Surface appears to take a different approach, with the specific goal of making surround and height speakers disappear as obvious sound sources.

Ascendo will demonstrate Panoramic Surface at CEDIA Expo 2026 in Sound Room 10, where it will be integrated into a scalable luxury cinema system alongside AcustiMOD, Christie, madVR Labs, Moovia, StormAudio, and Seymour-Screen Excellence. Pricing has not been announced, but we’ll have more information once CEDIA opens and we get a closer look at what Ascendo has built. Based on the concept alone, Panoramic Surface has the potential to be one of the show’s most interesting loudspeaker debuts.
