AL Filter .wav file inquiry

I’ve been meaning to ask this for quite sometime.

I’m generating .wav files for my AL filters based on my speaker configuration:

L Bass
L Treble
R Bass
R Treble
Center Subwoofer

AL spits out 6 .wav files. It’s obvious what the main speaker channels are but i’m curious about the 3 other filters and how to use them.

AL Filter 0.wav ( L Bass)
AL Filter 1.wav ( L Treble)
AL Filter 2.wav ( R Bass)
AL Filter 3.wav ( R Treble)
AL Filter 4.wav ( I have no idea what this is)
AL Filter 5.wav ( I assume this is the Sub info from the Left Channel)
AL Filter 6.wav ( I assume this is the Sub info from the Right Channel)

I use HQPlayer for convolution and I use it’s matrix mixer to mix filter 5 and filter 6 into one channel but I have no I deal what filter 4 is.
It looks like a Sub channel but it differs from the two.
Should I be using filter 4 this as the main sub channel eliminating the need to process 6 convolution filters?
Should I be using only one of the sub filters instead mixing two together?

Channel 5-6 are sub channels that I mix into one channel for a single mono output

Ignore the lable of (Channel7). This is actually the AL Filter 4.wav file. As you can see it differs slightly but now sure what this is.

Any guidance would be great!

All the extra correction paths are created to create the best possible integration with the main speakers.

Hey Bernt,

So should I be playing back all 3 of those filters or should I just be using one of them along with the main speaker filters?

With HQP, you need to use the pipeline setup in the matrix to account for your six wav files. You should not have to mix anything yourself. Do you know how to use the pipeline matrix in HQP? JCR

JCR,

Yes I am using the pipline matrix in HQPlayer using the two subwoofer filters (5/6) mixed into one sub channel as seen here.

only filter not being used is the 4th file which we are assuming is a LFE.

Your 2.0 pipeline setup in HQP looks right to me, assuming the wav files attached match the order in the cfg screenshot (I can’t see the full path). I’m not quite sure why it made no use of wav file 4, however, unless that is a sub or LFE and you don’t use that in stereo listening.

And I must admit that I’ve never had cfgs come out as your 5.1 has done, and I have 5.1 and 5.1.2 setups in my system. Specifically, I don’t know how to treat the multiple value cfg lines, such as 1.0 2.5 5.0. I never have gotten those.

Bernt, why don’t you weigh in on both of these questions. Thanks. JCR

It looks like Vego has got it right

Correction filter no 4 (starting the count from zero) is for the sub when it is used strictly for LFE.

Bernt, I think it would be helpful though to educate — at least for me — what the multiple value cfgs, such as 1.0 2.5 5.0, mean and how they are inputted properly into HQP. Thanks. JCR

Sure,

Here’s a link to the config protocol. It was created by John Pavel and implemented by me to support his convolver. Later I convinced JRiver to implement it, and Roon has followed suit with a slightly different variation.
