AV NIRVANA is proud to share our second video focused on using Room EQ Wizard. This video is focused more on the basic use of REW, what it can do, and a case study example. The goal of this video is to provide insight into what REW can do for us in setting up and optimizing a system. Please ask any questions or provide any comments below.

Also, please take a moment to Like the video and Subscribe to AV NIRVANA on YouTube!

Superb Matt... over 2,000 views.

@Todd Anderson ... have we shared this on Facebook?

This would be good at Axpona... probably couldn't get a big enough room to seat everyone.

Hi

I want to know How REW(Room Equalization Wizard) works.can you please share the basic block diagram of how the received(Log Sweep) audio processed and converted to IR(Impulse Respose).this is only for my educational curiosity.

Thanks so much Sonnie. The gist of this presentation is what I did at AXPONA, I modified it for this event. I will do a similar presentation this year at AXPONA and I will try to partner with a sponsor to do live demo's. I think this year will be really exciting. For the demo, we can even show how REW can be used for EQ and Subwoofer integration in a very indepthmanner.

paragingle123@gmail.comHi Todd

A lot of what you are probably looking for is answered in the supporting documents of REW.

For example here:
http://www.roomeqwizard.com/help/help_en-GB/html/index.html
and
https://www.avnirvana.com/resources/getting-started-with-rew-a-step-by-step-guide.19/

@John Mulcahy is the developer of REW and is the best person to answer detailed technical questions. You are welcome to ask some specific questions in the REW forum and John can answer those.

Still, I'm amazed how much more popular this video is than the Geddes video. It goes to show what a draw instructional videos around REW are like. I need to look into doing some more REW instructional videos, as clearly people want them. I was thinking that screen capture videos might also be really helpful, with a narration. I need to talk to John, the software I have works by capturing specific software and every time a new window ups up in REW, the video blanks out that window. As such, I can't capture all my actions. I probably need to find a different software with more flexibiltiy.

Google translated: "New interesting, but my knowledge of the English language is quite limited and I can't follow .... it's my problem, but I think it's a pretty common problem ...."

Maybe someone who speaks Italian can verify this.

regarding this topic it would be nice to watch a video that didn't assume that I know anything at all and was willing to explain things like I was in 3rd grade....

I am running a stereo only system with BAT/Bastanis audio gear. Thus there is no HDMI input involved.
I have setup REW on my laptop with HDMI mic and the headphone output to XLR in on the pre.
Everything works perfectly , but I cannot find any reference on here detailing what is needed re calibrating the laptop output - if indeed its even an issue ?

It’s unlikely any modern equipment would need calibration. It is possible but most even cheap interfaces are essentially transparent.

The trouble for me specifically. I already own a Focusrite Scarlett Solo, so I purchased a DaytonAudio EMM-6. I noticed both of them in the recommended hardware but can't find any tutorials for them. Thank You for the response.

HI, Can anybody here share the guidance on how to import REW settings, EQ, Filters and Calibration results to the AVR without MINIDSP 2X4HD or any other DSP?

If your AVR or SUB have PEQ or GEQ option available in settings you can manually upload the REW eq data in to AVR or SUB.

Sorry for the very basic questions. I'm not a professional; I've just watched a few videos and become curious about running some tests on my room.

Firstly, is the AV receiver actually required for some reason, or can one just connect the measurement microphone, and speakers if they are needed for the tests, directly to the computer with the REW software? I don't really understand the "signal flow" of the tests' sample collecting process at all.

First-point-fively, if they're required, then do the tests actually measure the quality of the receiver as much as they measure the quality of the room's impulse response and other acoustic metrics?

Secondly, do the tests require hearing protection? I am guessing this...

...is an example of how REW or similar tests are performed? It is hard to tell exactly how loud the sound would be in real life, compared to say, moderately loud music, but the lady does seem to opt for noise cancelling headphones (unless these headphones are to hear something as part of the test).

Hi,
I'm new to this, and am more interested in using these techniques to measurement, specifically in the open.
I see that REW room dimensions are limited to a 35m (each side) cube.
Any idea on what happens when it's bigger than that?
Perhaps REW is the wrong tool.

But I'd think this must be addressed in the underlying theory; after all it's a basic premise in loudspeakers that the limit approaches them mounted in an infinite plane. Think is called "infinite baffle".

So what happens when the volume in FRONT of the speakers approaches infinity too?
In terms of modelling it in REW or something similar.

Hi....again,
Another question if you would.
I don't see the environmental conditions for REW.
As in altitude, temperature and humidity.
The acoustic response changes as a function of this, not only because the properties of air changes, but for the materials in the room, as well as the loudspeakers.
Like surely things change for Brandi Stewart's stero system in Death Valley (-85m below sea level) compared to Alejandro Chavez's setup in La Rinconada (5,000m above sea level) in Peru...?
Afterall, the speed of sound at 5,000m is 320 m/s, compared to 340m/sec (or less at Mz Stewart's home).
That's a big difference.
And ambient temperature affects things too
What about Roald Amundsen's little pad at the Antarctic Research station, at -50 C, compared to Amir Mansouri's place in the Sahara, at a toasty 60 C?
OK, a bit of tongue in cheek here, these are perhaps a bit extreme, but for your serious audiophile, the ambient conditions probably overcome 90% of the marketing selling points of the Steihauser Salesman for the platinium-coated speaker cable terminals.
