I missed the end, but Angie said Mahomes showed out a little with the refs.

He did. He was chewing the line judge out… you could read his lips. He basically said they’ve worked incredibly hard to get to that point of the game, and to let them play. That’s the nice version, anyway

Wow... what a play that wasn't.

Hey... he was no doubt in the neutral zone. He's already at the line when they show the beginning of the play, so we don't really know if he looked over at the line judge like they usually do.

It is a clear violation. The receiver was over the line. The receiver failed here.. The receiver should know where he is lined up.

Most receivers look over at the line judge to get an okay for clearance... indeed they depend on the refs in these cases. It appears he may not have looked over like he should have, or he would have known he was over. It's hard to tell if you are over the line sometimes... which is why you see them looking over and pointing at the ref to get a visual okay that they are lined up correctly. If he did not get clearance from the ref, that is his own fault for sure. If he did get clearance, that would be on the ref and might have even been reviewable, but we can't see that part on that video.

Agree with you Sonnie.

I don't think he looked at the ref.

It doesn't appear he did, at least not from the video we see. I think if he had, there would have been a poop-storm on the field immediately after the call.

It is interesting thou, he stands out like a sore thumb. He is the only one way in front of the rest of the line (minus the center). Even if he didn't look at the ref, couldn't he just look at his own line and think, I am way in front of them, maybe, I should step back and join the rest of the team?? Even the opposite end receiver is back with the line!

You think he got paid to throw the play? Probably not, since it seems it wasn't planned that way.

It does look like he was absurdly across the line.

I think it is a mental mistake. I suspect he will review where he stands in the future thou. lol.

Apparently the right side of the offensive line was in an illegal formation, too. I gather the right tackle wasn’t square to the line? (Or something like that…)

ESPN discussed it in detail on the pregame show tonight. One of the head refs was there to explain. They usually warn the player if it is close... like if his foot is right on the line... marginally close. But when he is way past the line, as he was in this case, and it is a clear violation, they do not warn them... they call the penalty. I think he said there have been 14 occurrences of this same issue this year.

That’s interesting

My wife (a Chief's fan) and I were playfully arguing a bit about it last night. At the end of the day, it was clearly a penalty and Toney should have known better. It's on him, not the refs. Ticky-tack or not, the refs made the right call. Erica, of course, disagrees. Hahahaha

All my teams lost this weekend... Eagles, Dolphins, Chiefs... well... the Jets won, surprisingly.

That was ugly for the Eagles last night. My wife is from Philly... so we have them on from week to week. Their defense is having issues. They need to reset and get things headed in the right direction.

@JBrax did you toss your TV in the backyard? Tough loss... they may have still lost, who knows... the Bills are heating up
Lol, no I don’t let games affect me to that extent (anymore). It feels like this isn’t going to be the Chiefs year to add more hardware to the trophy case. Definitely a tough way to lose a game though. We’ll add some weapons for Mahomes this offseason and come back with vengeance.

Granted, these last few weeks have been ugly, but I could see Mahomes still having something up his sleeve. If they can control their penalties they should be okay. It seems they beat themselves more than they get beat.

I agree Mike.

It’s not like they’re getting blown out. The script can easily be flipped.

We’ll see. We’ve been doing something every week to sabotage ourselves. I just don’t see it suddenly stopping come playoff time. The good teams will send us home. That’s my opinion anyway, I hope I’m wrong.

A team like the Chiefs can turn it on. Will be more difficult without home field advantage, but they have experience in high pressure situations… I wouldn’t bet against them!

I think they will be in the mix, but look out for them 49'ers... they are lookin' mightily here at the end.
