Some guides to REW and acoustic measurement

Hello everyone, I have written two free eBooks on how to take and interpret measurements with REW. Both PDF's can be downloaded here.

I strictly limited my focus when writing this book. (1) it's written for beginners, (2) it was not my intention to replicate the REW manual, (3) there is no discussion on any super-advanced topics like manual DSP or any detailed explanation of phase. Although I might consider adding a third book to explain phase.

Book 1: "REW Basics". This is a highly condensed version of the second book with a focus on interpreting the most important measurement - the frequency response. If you know absolutely nothing about how to take measurements and read a freq response, this is where you should start.

Book 2: "REW Advanced". This is far from an "advanced" dive into REW, it's only more advanced than the "basics" book. It has explanations on how to interpret more measurements.

I am mostly on ASR and there is a thread there where this project as announced and completed. Please feel free to PM me for any feedback or mistakes.
very clear simple and interesting

REW tutorial. The video is probably geared more toward live sound, for concerts, but I think it could be useful to many, as could the entire channel. Thanks.

In the concert industry, the weakness of the most popular software in delivering a stable unwrapped phase trace has always been justified by avoiding its use in favor of wrapped version, as it is not a suitable tool.
I've prepared a video in which I instead demonstrate how in REW unwrapped phase is an effective and usable tool like others.
Although wrapped version is convenient, it is easily corrupted by reflections that break it up, while these breaks may be visible as mere deviations in the unwrapped audio.

PS: A side note: As you can see, while viewing the phase traces in overlay, I noticed some strange behavior in the graphs that could be bugs.

My latest video on REW received a thousand views in just a few hours, a sign of general appreciation for the software. I'm happy also the video was was appreciated, despite the use of AI for voice translation.
I have to admit that this free online vocal tool works really well if properly trained.

If all these settings are correct, reset your Timing Offset in the Measure Window. This usually happens because the distance you are currently measuring is shorter than the previous reference value.
