I looked at my network the other day to switch to a fixed IP address, and noticed the Network is set to Extend 1? What is that, and why is it not set to a wired selection that is not Extend? Is it because I have Musicast?

Wow. That is a left field question. And I have no idea what the answer is...

Did you look in the manual?

I've spend some time scouring the internet... I can't find an answer. :foottap:

I'll see if I can get some info from a contact at Yamaha. It could take a while, but x yer fingers!

Here is most likely a stupid question... How do I upconvert to Atmos a 5.1 recording? Is it the enhanced surround mode? In the past I have only listen to Atmos with Atmos encoded movies, but I keep seeing where others listen to Atmos with standard 5.1 recordings, and I do not see the function.

Yamaha labels it a “surround decoder”. There are several legacy ones (like Dolby PL2x for example) on the unit but the one you’re looking for is just called Dolby. There’s a surr decoder button on the remote somewhere that will cycle through them 1 at a time when pressed. You can use “Straight” or possibly overlay Yamaha’s DSP modes (“Movie Theater”, “Adventure” and so forth) with your choice of surround decoder.
Yamaha’s manual is here https://usa.yamaha.com/files/downlo...YH133A0_EN_CX-A5100_om_UCABGLVF_En.pdf#page69
Pages 69 to 73 have the info you’re looking for. Page 170 is a glossary of the different surround decoders which may also be helpful.
Now that you’ve mounted those height speakers you may as well let ‘em sing
:)

Isn’t it Dolby Surround for Dolby content and Neural:X for DTS content?

I think so...

I have been using surround all along... I did not realize it upped to Atmos speakers for non Atmos music, and movies.Makes sense as last night I was listening to a Dire Straits 5.1 SACD, and it sure was enveloping.

Ok, I have it up converting everything to Atmos now. I also decided to run YPAO since I have not run it here with heights. Strange thing is it set all my speakers at large, and crossed over to the KLH sub @40hz. My JBL 8340 (that I am using as a center until the k402s are ready used to crossover at 40hz with the 5100 in my old room when they were surrounds...this time it set it to 120hz!). I changed all of them to 80hz except for the JBL. Why would it do this?

Also has anyone heard of Yamaha actually having Auro3d as mentioned in my earlier post? I would love this to be a firmware upgrade! I would then just get a Dirac box for my setup.
