What is your take so far on Qobuz vs Tidal?

That Denon X8500H you have in your My Av System, if you still have it, is DLNA certified... Roon has the notion of "Zones" which is similar to HEOS which makes me wonder if all your HEOS devices might just "show up" in Roon... I know my Yamaha A/V receiver is not "Roon ready" or "Roon certified", what ever that is, and it does "show up" and work as a "Roon Endpoint" because DLNA I would guess... So... You can "link" "Zones"... When I am in the kitchen I have two Zones linked... One being my Small Room stereo system and a bluetooth speaker via my MacBookPro... Works like a charm...

Actually looking for a 14" that I can use for streaming, but also to house all my CD's on my laptop in .flac for my library. Something light and slim. Thinking Thinkpad maybe.

Currently running Roon with qobuz, but just signed up for the free 30 day trial with Tidal so that I can experience how they both integrate with Roon.

Pretty cool that Roon sorts and combines these together in a functional method.

I do still have it, although it isn't integrated at the moment. It's going to get re-integrated in a few weeks. When it does, I'll give it a whirl. I know that new Denon gear is being delivered as Roon Tested... so I suspect you're probably right.

I'm curious, what's your experience with TIDAL on Roon?

I don't like their suggestions as it is mostly rap music, but outside of that, can't tell a difference in sound quality thus far.

I should also add that I am waiting on a few things to really try to compare them. I want everything optimized in my room. I have a couple of amps coming, just got my HTP-1 connected, and waiting on getting some more Convolution filters for Roon DSP. I hope to have this all settled by next weekend, then I'll do some more strict comparisons. I have the latest Yello CD... Tidal has it MQA and qobuz also has it, so I can compare all three.

I’ll be curious to see if you hear a difference. The last time I compared a CD to Tidal, I thought the CD sounded better. It sounded cleaner to me. Doesn’t make logical sense, tho, unless the streaming music is processed by a different chip?

I do think Qobuz has a superior UI to Tidal. I think Qobuz is fantastic from a usability standpoint.

The cool thing about Roon is I can have all three versions in the same interface and easily compare them, but the CD is a copy, not the original. I can also play the CD via my UB9000 and compare it as well, so it is fairly easy to compare them all. What I can say is all of it sounds awesome to me. I really don't even know what I'm chasing after by changing things, although I do continue to hear what I think are subtle differences from time to time. Ultimately, my system has sounded as good or better than anything else I've heard for several years now. But if I don't continue to chase better, I lose the fun in the hobby... and that's my justifiable thinking thought.

I love ThinkPads. So does the International Space Station, heh. Get a Yoga and it turns into a tablet, too. Handy for the listening chair.

Would have been fun to compare Tidal to FLAC last month. Maybe next time. I have compared Tidal to Qobuz on my phone with headphones, preferring Qobuz. The Galaxy S9 has a decent DAC and I was able to switch between the two almost immediately.
