(August 7, 2018) VIZIO has made cutting the cord more tempting with the introduction of “WatchFree,” a new service that’s available on nearly all VIZIO SmartCast capable TVs. Developed in partnership with Pluto TV, WatchFree is a free-to-use streaming service that delivers more than 100 live and linear channels of entertainment. And because the service is self-contained within a television, there’s no need for any external equipment.

"With the TV landscape continuously evolving, we're excited to offer consumers a comprehensive entertainment solution packed with free and unlimited content offerings," said Bill Baxter, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO.

WatchFree users will find access to a range entertainment, including sports, movies, traditional TV shows, and viral videos, all by selected using an easy to navigate onscreen interface that’s designed to feel like menu systems found on popular cable and satellite providers. While heavy hitters such as HBO and ESPN are absent, VIZIO says SmartCast TV owners will find free unfettered access to the likes of MSNBC, Fox Sports, Crime Network, and The Surf Channel. And when combined with built-in TV tuners and Chromecast built-in found on all 2018 VIZIO SmartCast TVs, it’s easy to understand how WatchFree can be used to inject more content into a cordless world experience.

According to Pluto TV’s co-founder and CEO, Tom Ryan: “Powering VIZIO's WatchFree service is a pivotal next step in our goal to deliver free, premium entertainment to as many consumers as possible. From hit TV shows to blockbuster movies, news, sports, lifestyle and more, WatchFree is a gamechanger for cord-cutting enthusiasts."

WatchFree is included in VIZIO’s latest cloud-based update. If you’re a SmartCast TV owner and would like to remove the service from your set, simply search for WatchFree in you Input Settings and select “Hidden.”

Very interesting, thanks.

I live in a neighborhood that has a lot of older people and I am always asked what TV to recommend.

The Vizio with Watch Free would be great for them.

For sure, Jim. It's definitely another piece that can be used to get free content.
