With the recent introduction of UHD and HDR and it's 18Gbps requirements, how many of us are ready for what's next? 48Gbps is next and specs are published for 178Gbps. I would guess that Rec2020 color, Dolby Vision and 8K resolution would be 48Gbps.

Does everyone have that conduit to pull fiber optic in their theater room?

I've got fiberinto the house but it drops to Cat6 once inside. My internet is crazy fast. I'm getting 167kbs up and 162kbs down with no limit

I can install new wire fairly easy... but, wow, HDMI 2.1 is definitely going to rattle some cages. It will be interesting to see how quickly equipment will begin to demand the new cables.

Unfortunately I cannot install wire all that easily. I just have to take the ceiling down and then put it back up. My conduit got messed up somehow in the last 10 years.

I will be redoing the ceiling in my theater room this summer so I'm guessing I should replace my HDMI cable then?

Absolutely! I'd run a conduit with some string in it because it may not be that long before this new cable is obsolete.

Yep, conduit is in and a string in place. You can always tie a string to your existing cable, then when you pull it back, use it to pull the new cable in.
