Trinnov Audio’s Forthcoming Altitude Software Update Lets You Visualize Atmos in Action

(July 16, 2020) Trinnov Audio knows how to fuel the fires of audio mavens around the globe, injecting sonic bliss with some of the slickest and most drool-worthy AV gear on the market. Recently, the company issued a “July Newsletter” weighted by one very intriguing piece of information. While we have little detail, we thought this little nugget is worthy of a news spotlight.

According to Trinnov, a new software update for its 32- and 16-channel Altitude processors is imminent. Owners of either model should expect several improvements, including a wildly intriguing “Object Viewer” that visually plots Atmos encoded objects in a 3D map of a room... all in real-time.

This new tool will allow enthusiasts to better visualize what they’re hearing, allowing their eyes to see the fluid movement of audio objects as Atmos encoded content is played over their system.

I’ve been impressed with immersive audio, and I was a doubter. But this object viewer, IMO, is part of what’s wrong with this hobby/passion. So many people become so obsessed with specs and lights and indicators and labels and channels and objects and gizmos that they forget to sit down, ignore their equipment and watch a movie.

Watching that video was all I need to see if the “Object Viewer”. Neat. Next.

I think it has a lot of utility for set up and system checkups, especially when running a demo track. But, I definitely have found myself curious about how certain Atmos scenes have been encoded. So, I'd probably be one of those folks revisiting films I've seen to see how certain action sequences are encoded.

Mystifying that nearly 2 months later they haven't managed to get this released yet. Personally I would be more interested in Roon playback improvements than this feature .
