Trinnov Attacks Convenience, Versatility, and High Channel Count with New Amplitude-16 Amplifier

(October 6, 2021) Trinnov Audio's new 16-channel Amplitude-16 Power Amplifier packs the muscle of two 8-channel amplifiers in a single 3RU chassis, bringing high levels of versatility and space efficiency to a rack-friendly amp. Currently scheduled to begin shipping in December 2021, Trinnov plans to showcase its Amplitude-16 at the Paris Audio Video Show later this month.

The Amplitude-16 is built around dual power supplies, each requiring its own 15-amp AC power inlet. Incoming power fuels ICEpower Class D amp modules that deliver 200 watts per channel of continuous power (8 ohms) or 400 watts at 4 ohms, with the ability to bridge for a whopping 800 watts per channel (8 ohms) and over 1,000 watts at 4 ohms. And to streamline connectivity, balanced analog inputs to the Amplitude-16 are achieved through dual Tascam pinout DB25 connectors. These connectors eliminate the need for a thick bundle of XLR connections, streamlining rack installation and keeping wire management to a minimum.

"When we set out to create a new companion amplifier for Trinnov's Altitude processors, we recognized that just another power amp would not do. It needed to be something special to carry the Trinnov name, and the Amplitude16 indeed fits that description," explained Arnaud Laborie, Trinnov CEO. "Its unique versatility provides integrators and system designers with a great-sounding, powerful tool for optimizing dynamic power delivery by channel in a space-saving, cost and energy-efficient manner."

Trinnov has also announced a forthcoming add-on Dante input board shipping in 2022. This board allows the amp to connect to any Altitude processor via a network switch, but also allows for remote monitoring of the amplifier's hardware status and AES compatibility for easy integration with Altitude processors. In addition, the company says all Altitude processors with receive Ravenna/AES67 functionality later this year as a free update.

Trinnov says the input sensitivity of the Amplitude-16 is optimally matched to the output level of Trinnov's Altitude processors, maximizing the system's signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range. This lends to signal-to-noise performance that's typically improved from 6 to 8 dB compared to power amplifiers with conventional input sensitivity. As it stands, continuous power with all 16 channels driven is 2,800 Watts, which results in a THD+N of less than 0.1%.

@Michael Boeker : XLR to DB25 cables, correct? Anyone interested in running this amp with a preamp that lacks DB25 can do so without introducing issues?

You can get the DB25 cables in many configurations. DB25 is just a balanced 8 channel connector so it works with any balanced product and you can get the other end of the snake with whatever balanced connector you need.

Love the concept of the easy connection without all the XLR cables, which is something I struggle with. Assuming the pre-outs on the Trinnov processors are all active, whether via the DB25 pinout or XLR outputs, for situations like I might have where I want different amps for my two-channel setup and would need XLR out... then use the DB25 for the remainder of the channels from the Trinnov processor to the Trinnov amp. That's a LOT of power in an amp.

I like it too. XLR is great, but you can end up with a massive nest of wires, quick. This pretty much removes that annoyance.

I always use a snake cable, even when it is XLR's on both ends. No need for a nest of wires. I get my snake cables from proaudiola.com. One can get up to 24 channels with 1 snake. These keep the rack nice and clean.
