Hello: I'm a beginner. My recording equipment is old and I usually don't use it for anything but tracking and mixing but one day: this is a 2009 Mac Pro Running OS 10.8.5, in order to use Pro tools 9 HD.
I installed rew on harddrive. Using Dayton USB mic, I set Rew up to use the optical output of Mac Pro (toslink) That went into Grace M904 and into my monitors I made pink noise test, adjusted sound to 80 db using Radioshack SPL, mic in place, set to 20-20,000 HZ, take measurment. Graph looks as expected. I delete it immedietly to do another because I was holding the mic in my hand but I can't do another because the Grace isn't working anymore.
The toskink input is gone, fried, I don't know. Can you see what I did wrong, from my discription?
Thanks, Rique

Is this a trick question? Holding the Mic in your hand would be an error... Next up is the Toslink... Apple describes this as "Some Mac computers also support optical digital audio input using the S/PDIF protocol. Use a Toslink cable with a Toslink miniplug adapter or a fiber-optic cable with a 3.5 mm plastic or nylon optical plug." If its optical then it may need to be reseated and/or cleaned... Cheap plastic and all...
